One of the quietest guys in my office resigned last month.

Nobody really noticed him like that. He doesn't wear expensive clothes, hardly gives his opinions, and doesn't even post anything on social media.

While others would post about their accomplishments on LinkedIn, this guy doesn't care about that. On few occasions he talked, he'd just say:

“Forget LinkedIn jor.”

People mostly saw him as one struggling guy trying to survive Lagos. Others even think he's unserious with his life by being quiet and not making new connections.

On his last day, our manager jokingly asked him:
“So where you dey go now? Hope say no be another small company.”

That was when we found out he was relocating to Canada.

A fully sponsored job, with a far better salary than almost everybody there. Accommodation was also already sorted.

The silence in the office that day was something else.

You see...

People don't understand that not everybody advertises their life while building it. And the fact that someone is silent or not flashy doesn't mean they're not progressing.

If you’re serious about escaping poverty and becoming valuable in 2026, do these:

1. Learn a high-income skill (copywriting, data analysis, UI/UX, forex, sales). In this economy, skill is survival.

2. Learn at least one extra language, French, Spanish, German… even Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa if it’s not your own. Languages open doors money cannot.

3. Read one book per month, your brain needs data more than your phone.

4. Work on your communication, English that is clean, confident, and clear will take you far.

5. Build a digital presence, in 2026, being invisible online is career suicide.

6. Network intentionally, Nigeria is a “who knows who” country.

7. Master one useful tech tool (Excel, Power BI, Canva, Notion, Figma, ChatGPT).

8. Improve your emotional control, Lagos alone will test your character.

9. Have at least one side hustle, never depend on only one stream of income.

10. Take your health seriously, gym, better food, routine checkups. Hospital bills in Nigeria are not friendly.

11. Look neat, not expensive, branding is power, packaging is currency.

12. Respect people’s time, professionalism is rare here; be different.

13. Keep your circle tight, too many people pretend to support you but pray for your downfall.

14. Learn how to sell, products, services, ideas. Sales is the true superpower.

15. Document your journey, Nigerians love growth stories. It builds trust & community.

2026 will reward those with skill, discipline, packaging, & visibility, not noise.
