If you want to know why it's harder for women in gaming/esports the answer shouldn't surprise you. Society at every step pushes you away.

1. Societal norms & parents push girls away from perceived 'male activities'. Depending on the household men were given tonnes of personal freedoms, meanwhile women are held to an unfair personal standard. I can speak to my own and friend's family experiences but I'm sure everyone has their own story.

2. If you actually get to play, pray the game doesn't have mic functionality or your ign isn't girly. You will get fucking harrassed at every step of learning/playing a competitive game. Especially since the report function for most games are useless, always feels like the only way to move forward is to develop a thicker skin and higher tolerance for harrassment or quit.

3. In a team game there will always be this stigma, and finding a pathway up with no opportunity to develop or just experience an open community is hard. It's why events like the one the LEC social account promoted just 5 hours ago is super valuable and should be supported more.

Woke up and saw the Bwipo clip -> Saw the FlyQuest tweet -> Read reddit/twitter/etc. His comment is super gross and ignorant and I'm even confused on how he can make it (there are woman pro players in games already and have been historically lol. Not to mention in other high end stress jobs like what). I would expect/anticipate that Riot will do something now as well.

Actually such a disbelief moment in regards to level of stupidity/ignorance the clip is. It's the type of clip genuinely malicious/misogynistic/hateful ppl would try to weaponize against female players, instead of trying to make spaces more inclusive for them.

I fully believe the reason why for example there aren't more female pros has nothing to do with biology, but rather the environments within the space don't create proper places for the talents to shine through and get real opportunities.

In league specifically there are literal female challenger players right now in every region, it's dishonest to say none of them could be pro lol.

Also a lot of pro players have mental illnesses pertaining to anxiety/depression/etc which are CONSTANT (not once a month like a period) thing, so it's also even more crazy to claim a period would somehow ever be worse.

Women being unable to play games competitive due to their periods is as dumb and dangerous of a take as I've seen in a while.

In my nearly 20 years in esports I've met some of the most calm and logical women, and some of the most irrational and emotional men. I've also had the pleasure of playing w/ one of the GOATs of gaming Hafu who was dominating in a scene made up almost entirely of men.

We need to stop these dangerous generalizations against a group of people that's already struggling to get opportunities in a space that's dominated by men. These types of takes just help to further reinforce peoples biases against women & only serve to reduce the opportunities they receive as a result.

Judge people by their individual character and merit and stop the stereotyping.
