UPDATE TO MEMBERS
The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), under the able leadership of Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman, is pleased to inform all members that a major breakthrough has been achieved regarding the long-awaited employment process in the affected Federal Tertiary Health Institutions.
We have received confirmation that the Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Motunrayo Hulayat Omidiran, has directed the Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) of the 12 affected hospitals to report to the Commission to receive their respective Letters of Compliance and immediately proceed with all outstanding processes required for the issuance of appointment letters to healthcare workers in their institutions.
Members will recall that during the just-concluded Ordinary General Meeting (OGM), NARD issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to prevail on the FCC to release these letters. This development is therefore a welcome and significant step towards resolving the lingering employment challenges affecting our colleagues.
Consequently, we urge the center Presidents of the affected hospitals to actively engage and follow up with their CMDs to ensure the prompt collection of these compliance letters and the speedy conclusion of all recruitment processes.
NARD sincerely appreciates the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, for his timely intervention, strategic engagement with the FCC Chairperson, and commitment towards ensuring that the right thing was done in the interest of healthcare workers and the Nigerian health sector.
We also commend the collective resolve, support, and solidarity of the NARD OGM, whose decisions continue to produce tangible results and positive outcomes for our members nationwide.
This development once again demonstrates that constructive engagement, unity of purpose, and strategic advocacy remain powerful tools for advancing the welfare of doctors and strengthening our healthcare system.

“It is extremely unfortunate that after the Federal Government has undertaken due diligence and demonstrated commitment toward addressing workforce shortages in the health sector, certain individuals within government establishments are now frustrating implementation through needless bureaucratic delays and administrative bottlenecks.
No personal interest, political consideration, or bureaucratic power play should be allowed to sabotage the survival of Nigeria’s healthcare system.
NARD wishes to clearly state that continued delays in these employment processes may further aggravate industrial unrest within the health sector, as healthcare workers can no longer continue to bear the unbearable consequences of manpower shortages caused by administrative inefficiency.”
