The No. 7 is known as a “jointer.” It features the same blade and width as the No. 6, but it is 22" long and weighs 9-1/2 lbs.. The extra heft comes in handy when dealing with any grain that might have given a lighter plane trouble and it's less tiring to use.
No. 4, a smoothing plane, takes the thinnest shavings for an exceptional finish to your woodworking. Slightly longer than a block plane, the tote makes it more comfortable for extended use. Used skillfully, it can be the final step before finishing.
