@Shawn_M_Freese@elonmusk Not sure where that is. I am in year 16, have 2 Master’s degrees and every teacher in my school at least holds a BS or BA. Most have their Master’s.
@johnisfantastic @FixingEducation This first part is what annoys me the most. 11 years in one state with stellar appraisal, new state for 3 and am “emerging efficient” and almost “ineffective” because I’m not growing the highest kids more. 🤦🏼♀️
Interviewed a teacher who left the profession.
Why did you resign?
“I have a Master’s degree. I work really hard. I love teaching kids and am great at my job. I do it all for a disgracefully low salary. All of that and I’ve never felt so disrespected by so many.”
Data is not Teacher Professional Wisdom.
The growth in literacy & numeracy testing is not for children, it’s for those far away & disconnected from them.
It’s about surveillance & mistrust
It’s not about public assurance

Any veteran Ts out there have districts that MANDATE they use a purchased (poor) curriculum with no T autonomy? So tired of the “we do what’s best for students” and “we teach standards, not curriculum” and then pulling out the rug and saying Ts don’t know their Ss best.
@jodidemps@JayWamsted Experiencing this rn with my 4th grader. She is so beat down - 2+ hours of work at home (if I made her do it all) and then grades is just a whole other ordeal. She hates school. She’s 9. I teach 8th and I fear the future for her and her peers. It’s ugly .
@NancyEBailey1 I teach 8th and my daughter is in 4th. Between all the dev. inappropriate work, ridiculous grading practices, and unreasonable expectations we r driving Ss to just throw up their hands. My daughter is being assessed for anxiety and is seeing a counselor. My Ss r so overwhelmed.
Making high schoolers do college, middle schoolers do high school, & elementary schoolers do middle school is all developmentally inappropriate, & then Americans wonder why students don't do well on the tests. 🧐
@Arumi_kai I agree. I deleted our daughter’s account after she came and told me that the house she spent days curating was attacked and robbed. We also had it set for the youngest age. She was so shaken and hurt.
@DrKChilds @lindsayblyons Now I’m back to a multimillion curriculum that doesn’t meet the standards AND pretends like the pandemic didn’t happen w/ minimal training/time to learn it. But it’s supposedly the best out there. Education needs an overhaul, but “curriculums” aren’t the answer. (3/3)
@DrKChilds @lindsayblyons Don’t care about a curriculum, they only care about the standards. Then I’ve been places where I was trusted enough as a professional with content expertise and experience and time to work with my colleagues at the school and district level to create my own units/curriculum (2/3)
@MrsUTeachesTech@teacher2teacher I’m curious to how you build the classroom culture and accountability for Ss to be successful in this. This is what I strive for my classroom to be, but am struggling with some major apathy and motivation/personal accountability issues.
