On 28 April 1986, in the Ashoka Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the 87-year-old General Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was invested with the rank of Field Marshal and presented the baton of office by President Giani Zail Singh.
The book titled Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa written by his son, Air Marshal K.C. Cariappa (Retd), gives a detailed account of the event. He writes:
“It was a particularly memorable event for us in the family. His two surviving brothers Nanjappa and Bopaiah had arrived from Kodagu to be present at the Investiture Ceremony. The Ashoka Hall was filled to capacity by the high and the mighty of the land. Father was in his dress uniform, something he had not worn for many, many years. He wore, as always, narrow pointed shoes.+
कोई पास न रहने पर भी, जन-मन मौन नहीं रहता;
क्या ही स्वच्छ चाँदनी है यह, है क्या ही निस्तब्ध निशा;
|| Unlocking the Mysteries of Rudraksha: Exploring the Origin, Types, Spiritual Significance, and Scientific Insights ||
Rudraksha, also known as "the tears of Shiva," derives its name from the combination of two Sanskrit words: "rudra," which refers to Bhagawan Shiva, and "aksha," meaning eyes. This sacred seed is often referred to as the eyes of Shiva due to its association with the divine.
Origin- The origins of Rudraksha are mentioned in the Shiva Purana. According to the text, Bhagawan Shiva, the supreme practitioner of Yoga, engaged in intense meditation for thousands of years, intending to bestow benefits upon humanity. When Shiva eventually opened his eyes, teardrops fell upon the Earth and transformed into Rudraksha trees, giving rise to the sacred seeds we recognize today.
According to another parallel story, rudraksha is related to Shiva’s killing of Tripurasura, who sought to destroy the Universe and whom all the Devas, Brahma, and Vishnu failed to control. Mahadeva concentrated with his eyes wide open for several years together to create a very highly potent weapon ‘Aghora’ with which to annihilate the Demon and in the process trickled tears which produced a stream from where sprang a Rudraksha Tree.
In the physical realm, Rudraksha beads are the dried seeds of the Elaeocarpus Ganitrus tree, which predominantly grows in specific regions of Southeast Asia.
Types and their relation with shiva's eyes-
The Rudraksha seeds come in a diverse range of thirty-eight varieties. These variations are attributed to the different origins of the seeds from Bhagawan Shiva's divine features. From Shiva's right eye, representing the radiant "Surya Netra" (Sun God), emerged twelve types of Rudraksha seeds with a yellow hue. Similarly, from his left eye, symbolizing the tranquil "Soma Netra" (Moon), sprouted sixteen varieties of Rudraksha beads with a white color. Finally, from the Shiva's third eye located on his forehead, symbolizing the fiery "Agni Netra" (Fire), emerged ten types of Rudraksha seeds with a deep black shade.
Significance-
According to shiv purana, chapter 25-
Meaning- Rudraksha is an extremely auspicious bead and is extremely dear to Bhagawan Shiva. By it's mere sight or by preforming japam with the same ,or using it as a mantra japa, all the sins get destroyed.
Meaning-Rudraksha has been prescribed for the removal of the sins. Therefore one should wear this Rudraksha which fulfils all the desire.
Meaning- A devotee should wear three strings of three hundred and sixty Rudraksha beads like a "Yajnopavita".
Meaning- The performing of "Japam" by the mala of Rudrakasha beads, multiplies the reward crores of times.
Other soiritual importance-
The importance of Rudraksha is also highlighted in the Linga Purana which states that Shiva does not accept Puja of those devotees who do not wear the Rudrakshas. In padma purana it is mentioned that a human becomes equal to me (shiva) by wearing rudraksha.
Rudraksha is capable of differentiating eatable, non eatables, pure, impure water by showing different kind of motion. Today, many doctors are recommending it for different health issues.
Medical Research-
It is still a subject of research. But few research paper has already been published by indians.
Dr. Suhas Roy, a distinguished researcher from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology in Banaras, India, has contributed significantly to the understanding of Rudraksha beads. In his notable research paper, Dr. Roy validated the healing attributes of Rudraksha beads, attributing them to their electromagnetic properties. According to his findings, when Rudraksha beads are positioned over the heart, they possess the capability to stabilize the heartbeat, promoting a sense of balance and well-being. Dr. Suhas Roy's research has shed light on the scientific basis behind the therapeutic effects of Rudraksha beads, further reinforcing their significance in spiritual and holistic practices.
It make sense as it is said that the reason for most illnesses is impure blood circulation which is resulted from the blockages in the passage of arteries and veins which carry blood to and from the heart to all parts of the body due to variety of reasons.
Magnets, these days are extremely popular for purpose of healing such diseases. When magnets are brought in contact with the affected area it opens up or expands only those sections of veins and arteries where the polarity matches because of which complete healing is not possible. Though Rudraksha Beads retains most of the properties of magnets, but it also has the ability to change its polarity which can be termed as Diamagnetism, the ability of any material to acquire temporary magnetic property in the presence of an external magnetic field.
In other words, it has the property of dynamic polarity as a result of which it acquires a polarity that is opposite of the inducing magnetic field created by heartbeats and blood circulation thereby opening up the passages of arteries and veins better facilitating a much better healing and rejuvenation experience than magnets.
Mantra to be used-
"Om Namah Shivaya": This is the foremost mantra dedicated to Bhagawn Shiva. Chanting this mantra while wearing or holding Rudraksha amplifies its spiritual potency.
"Rudraksha Dharanam Mantra": This shloka is recited during the process of wearing Rudraksha beads. It seeks the blessings of Baagwan Shiva and asks for protection and guidance.
"Rudraksha Shatakam": A sacred poem composed by sage Rishabha, it praises the divine powers and attributes of Rudraksha beads.
