I truly do appreciate your concern and wanted to reply because I fully agree and don’t want people, or especially other artists to get the impression that they have to work non-stop to make it in this industry. It can definitely get overwhelming at times but I’ve learned to prioritize what my mind and body need in order to feel good and stay sane.
Making time and prioritizing sleep (extremely difficult on the road but so important), healthy diet (same), and proper workouts have me feeling way better than I ever did in my 20’s. It’s also super important to spend time with your partner, family, friends etc and I think the pandemic year of no shows was great for a lot of artists to reset and come back into things with a healthier balance.
Overworking ourselves tends to get glamourized these days and can be a point of pride, but taken too far is extremely unhealthy. I know it looks like I’m doing an insane amount of shows with the tour lineup announces dropping all the time but I’m actually only playing in 7 cities in the 4 months between LL and the tour starting in February. It’s been great to have more time in the studio and I’ve got a lot of different stuff in the pipeline that I’ve been working on for a long time and coming closer to fruition. As an introvert, without the balance of being able to hermit away in the studio, touring would be a lot harder. It’s extremely important not just for artists but for everyone to find their own balance in life and do their best to stay within that range, taking breaks or pushing themselves to go harder as necessary.
@GovRonDeSantis announced he’s running for president on Twitter. This was by far the biggest room ever held on social media. Twitter performed great after some initial scaling challenges. Thanks Twitter Team for adapting so quickly to make history!
