@TPPSkol@DWolfsonKSTP@SKORNorth They have no incentive to declare McCarthy the starter now, any external diacussion is pointless. They’d much rather have the Eagles need to plan for either player
@cguida6 And there’s the real filter - cost. If block space is expensive, why would anyone pay 4x more for op_return if they could use the witness for data?
@cguida6 How would you explain the sub 1sat/vbyte transactions that started getting mined this summer? To me, the increase in demand (ie, miners willing to mine them) led to them getting relayed before core even modified anything to enable that
@cguida6 Filters work when there’s not serious demand for them to be circumvented. If people care enough to try to bypass them, the only purpose they serve is to limit your visibility of the network
@seniorsoren@duczko I guess to me, if this was an actual risk to bitcoin, we’ve lost already. If a random eth troll can force nodes to shut down we lose. The better defense is to argue that node operators aren’t responsible for the data in the blockchain, because it’s a public space
@seniorsoren@duczko Yeah, what you said is correct. So this tx policy change doesn’t actually impact what could be in a block. IMO, if the gov wanted to attack bitcoin, they could just force a miner to mine something illicit already
@caoimhinllc@LukeDashjr Knots is no different than core in this respect. If the data is in a block (which it will be, because miners don’t care about your mempool filter), your node will relay it
@ShantCancik @GrassFedBitcoin This is ridiculous. If it comes in a full block, it ends up on your node regardless. So you can filter all you want, but the only way to achieve this in reality is to hard fork
@plk669888@_DavidSFreeman Bitcoin is primarily a technological phenomenon. Money is technology. It only works as money because it first functions as a technological system
@bramk@ryanrakich@bitcoincoreorg I didn’t say the spam itself adds value, the value of bitcoin relies on uncensorability. If you could arbitrarily decide txs were “spam” and couldn’t go in a block, what stops a hostile government from doing the same?
@bramk@bitcoincoreorg Thinking you can stop people from doing something with Bitcoin = not understanding Bitcoin
If Bitcoin wasn’t permissionless Bitcoin would have no value
