“Such stuff as dreams are made on...”
When the RSC announced Kenneth Branagh was going to do The Tempest (directed by Richard Eyre, no less!), even one of Prospero’s eponymous storms wouldn’t stop me from seeing it!
Watching Branagh play one of my dream roles was truly magical.
@mikemovies A spectacular adaptation, made with great talent and few resources by the genius of Branagh, it paved the way, imitated a thousand times, and no one has managed to surpass it to this day.
The Princess Bride (1987) never ages. It’s witty, romantic, and endlessly quotable. Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin performed their entire sword duel themselves after months of training, turning it into one of the most memorable fights in cinema history.
1965 version of the Irving Berlin song “This Year’s Kisses” by Nina Simone. Players include Bobby Hamilton and Rudy Stevenson. From the album Let It All Out. https://t.co/2nMKpgH1TC
A bit pissed that Glenn Close chose to settle for a Honorary Oscar. In my opinion, she was robbed in 1987, 1988 and of course 2018. Monumental actress!
On my way home from seeing Kenneth Branagh in The Tempest @TheRSC Stratford. What a performance, such poetry in his voice. His soliloquy (“Ye elves of hills…”) was so moving, I realised I had been holding my breath.
Well worth queuing online for hours for the tickets!
@itsevidentvery Absolutely on Branagh's side, he's miles better than DW, although I respect other people's sexual preferences if that's what you're talking about 😀
'Music is one of the ways by which you can know everything which is going on in the world. You can feel... through music... Whew... you can feel the vibrations of everybody in the world at any given moment.'
