Today marked my last day as the @Salem_Statesman breaking news and public safety reporter. I’m so grateful to all of my coworkers for their guidance and support, and to the Salem community for allowing me to share your stories over the last 1.5 years.
Live coverage from @isabeldfunk about the 50501 protest today near the Capitol.

Last month @kjneri19 and I covered the trial of the truck driver who swerved off I-5 and hit a van carrying 11 farmworkers, killing 7. Yesterday, he was sentenced to 48 years in prison, practically a life sentence for the 55-year-old.
Adan Garcia-Garcia remembers screaming his brother's name as he ran from the semitruck that was about to hit their van. It was an emotional day in the courtroom as he and the other survivors testified about the crash that killed 7, including his brother:

For the next few days I’m in Asheville, NC, helping out on Helene recovery reporting. I spent today talking to people around town, reflecting on the month since it hit. My story will be out in the morning, but in the meantime, my takeaways so far:
