please get a library card even if you won’t use it because cities will look at library statistics and use that to decide to keep libraries open and properly funded
my hot take is that getting diagnosed is a privilege. besides, most people TECHNICALLY self-diagnose before they seek a diagnosis anyway. the entire reason you seek a diagnosis is because you ALREADY see those signs in yourself.
New research reveals that dancing may be the most effective exercise for treating depression, outperforming traditional antidepressants and yoga.
According to a comprehensive 2024 meta-analysis published in The BMJ, dancing is a potent science-backed antidepressant that provides larger reductions in depression symptoms than walking, strength training, or medication alone. The study, which reviewed 218 trials involving over 14,000 participants, highlights how the unique combination of physical exertion, rhythm, and emotional expression creates a neurochemical symphony in the brain. By simultaneously releasing serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin while lowering cortisol, dance offers a multi-layered approach to mental wellness that traditional solitary exercises often lack.
Beyond the physiological perks, dancing acts as a form of somatic therapy that helps break the cycle of negative rumination and enhances mindfulness. When performed in groups, it fosters interbrain synchrony, strengthening social bonds and enhancing the overall therapeutic effect. Because it is highly accessible and requires no gym membership, researchers are now advocating for dance to be considered a front-line treatment or a powerful complement to psychotherapy. Whether in a living room or a ballroom, moving to the beat is proving to be a safe, cost-effective, and transformative tool for managing anxiety and depression across all age groups.

Here in Iowa City we made buses fare free and it worked so well we voted to make the move permanent. The fear mongering on free public transit is woefully inaccurate. They make drivers safer, it’s cost effective, it reduces traffic, and clears the air.

Democrats flipped two statewide seats in Georgia, flipped two legislative seats in Mississippi (breaking the GOP supermajority), and ran the table in Virginia. But whatever you gotta tell yourself.
Zohran Mamdani didn’t hold back on the chaos at polling stations:
“These bomb threats are not isolated — they’re the logical outcome of Trump’s fear campaign. When you normalize lies about voter fraud, you’re not ‘protecting democracy,’ you’re terrorizing voters into silence.”
Breaking News: Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker from Queens, will be the 111th mayor of New York. He will be the first Muslim to ever lead the city, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest mayor in more than a century.

@PopBase i work for this lifeline. i talk to people terrified of losing rights, safety, and hope. they’re afraid of simply existing. this isn’t a shift, it’s erasure and a death sentence. it tells them their pain doesn’t need understanding and that their lives don’t matter.
SAMHSA announced that 988's LGBQTI+ service will be shut down. The service fielded 1.3M+ contacts & plays a role in addressing disparate health needs of LGBTQ+ youth. We wrote about this possibility and the role the line has played: https://t.co/lnEzK10sjP w/ @heathersaunder_
Again: The USPS is REQUIRED to deliver to EVERY. SINGLE. ADDRESS in the United States. They have someone ride into the Grand Canyon ON A MULE to deliver mail to people who live at the bottom of the canyon. They are not meant to be profitable. They are meant to serve US citizens.
