The weapons and ammunition that the outgoing President’s government transported from Mogadishu to Galkayo today, which triggered armed clashes and resulted in injuries, demonstrate that Hassan Sheikh is not invested in unity against terrorism, but is instead working toward civil war.

The international community met in Kampala last week to discuss how Somalia could achieve political stability to build a unified front against Al-Shabaab. However, HSM is doing the exact opposite. The people of Galmudug and Puntland have coexisted peacefully for a long time, but his reckless actions directly threaten that stability.

Absolutely. Many people may not be aware that, during the first phase of the SNA reform in 2018–2019, three positions-if I recall correctly, logistics, finance, and personnel-were filled through an open, merit-based process. Ibrahim was among those fairly selected because of his competence. @AbdullahiJihan and Barise both played instrumental roles in that reform. Accordingly, they are unquestionably seasoned security experts.

I also agree that Jihan Hassan is highly competent and is serving her country rightfully.

The 🇸🇴 Electricity Sector Recovery Project, #launched today in the Northeast administration,@NortheasternWB specifically in #Las #Anod, states that the project is #intended to install solar energy systems in:

30 healthcare facilities, with an #allocated budget of US$2.5 million.
43 educational institutions, with an #allocated budget of US$1.5 million.

However, today’s launch announced #implementation in only 45 facilities. This raises an important question: where are the remaining 28 facilities? Will they be included in a later phase? No clarification has been provided so far.

Finally, appreciation goes to everyone who #contributed to this initiative, especially the World Bank, @WorldBankGroup the Northeast administration, and Somalia’s Federal Minister of Energy and Water Resources. @MoEWRSo

It is essential that donor-funded projects are #managed with transparency and accountability. Otherwise, public confidence in both the administration and development partners could be #undermined. At present, 28 facilities that were included in the original allocation remain #unaccounted for, making it reasonable to ask where that portion of the project will be #implemented.

Note: This project was planned during the SSC-Khaatumo period.

Now that the festivities of unity and Somalia's Independence Day are behind us, and thanks to my sister @alihanna71 for keeping this reminder alive, I will be spending the coming week speaking out about Sadia Bajaaj, who was sentenced to three years in prison for peacefully exercising her right to free expression.

My focus is on institutions. Politicians come and go. What must outlast them are the institutions rebuilt in Somalia over the past decades. These bodies exist to protect everyone, including the accused. In Sadia's case, that system was weaponized. They failed her.

Chief among them:

1. The National Independent Human Rights Commission
2. The Somali Police Force
3. The Benadir Regional Court
4. The Office of the Attorney General

These institutions are meant to be the guardrails of our nascent state. When the guardians stop guarding, every single citizen is exposed. We cannot afford to be indifferent to that risk.

From prison, Sadia has been clear: she asks not for a pardon, but for a fair and independent appeal. And to be defended not for her clan, nor only because she is a woman, but as a Somali citizen entitled to justice.
