With the IAF officially going for 150 LIFT trainers, likely LCA LIFT based on Tejas, the Indian Navy should also start a program to replace its own AJT Hawks with LCA Navy-based LIFT. Production is going to peak in the coming years; it's better to take advantage of that on time.

Attack on Bholari Airbase, Nuclear command centre in Noor Khan Airbase & nuclear storage facility in Kirana Hills was turning point
Sad news today. Wg Cdr Dinesh Chander “Danny” Nayyar, Vir Chakra, passed away after battling illness over the last few years.
Danny Sir was commissioned into the IAF on 25 December 1964 with the 91st Pilot Course (25th NDA). Still a very junior fighter pilot, he was sent to the United States for the USAF's Advanced Fighter Course, training on the T-33 and F-86 Sabre at Randolph and Nellis. He was among the last IAF pilots to pass through a remarkable programme that trained some 80 Indian fighter pilots in the US between 1963 and 1966.
He returned to India to fly Mystères with 31 and 26 Squadrons, before moving to the Su-7-equipped 221 Squadron. It was with 221 Sqn that he went to war in December 1971, operating from Panagarh in the Eastern Sector. He flew 11 combat missions.
On his first counter-air strike against Dacca airfield, his Su-7 came under heavy anti-aircraft fire. He pressed home the attack, silencing the guns and destroying a Sabre on the ground.
On another mission, he spent considerable time over enemy territory searching for a carefully camouflaged POL dump until he located and destroyed it. For his actions during the war, Flt Lt DC Nayyar was awarded the Vir Chakra.
His career after 1971 was unusually varied. He became a flying instructor, returned to fighters with 10 Sqn, qualified as a Fighter Combat Leader at TACDE, spent several years instructing with the Iraqi Air Force, including during the opening of the Iran-Iraq War, served with 21 Sqn and eventually commanded 4 Squadron from 1983 to 1985.
He had flown 3,362 hours in the IAF when he moved to Air India. By the end of his flying career, the figure was 12,790 hours.
Over the years, Danny Sir was extraordinarily generous with his memories. When I asked him to help reconstruct his career for the IAFHistory database, he painstakingly went back through his postings, courses and dates, corrected details that did not look right and repeatedly offered to dig out more.
And he kept doing it. As recently as Sep 2025, when I asked him about some flying details, he tried to retrieve the information for me.
Blue skies, Sir.
My condolences to @ReshmaNayyar and the family.
