@halaljew Hostos also runs College Now and SIEP for NYCPS students (recruiting from schools with large poor/undocumented populations) and is in my opinion one of the biggest drivers into getting them into 4-year colleges down the road. Their programs are awesome!
@Jaxson5indahidd@DeepDishEnjoyer 72 and 73 (even and odd) are the same route in opposite directions (like DC—>boston vs Boston —>DC). So the 72 may be hours before the 73 while the 74 is right after. I didn’t double check the specifics for these but that’s just the general rule.
@GovKathyHochul any updates on when the Maspeth EV charging station will be open? It doesn’t look close to completion and I was really looking forward to its opening! https://t.co/bwzAo0o6xd
@moddem1390@KristyT To shovel for city of New York they’re getting put on city of New York payroll; all 330,000 people on city of New York payroll have to do something like this. Regardless of if we think it’s dumb!
@moddem1390@KristyT For whatever it’s worth, working for City of New York has always required extra steps in their “I-9 verification” and it’s pretty inefficient for the worker. The extra steps here are basically what is done for you if you go to verify at NYC DOE for example.
@AmbitiousKilo@bbambied Annoyingly, some home insurance companies are giving discounts now if you get a Ring name brand camera- must be a partnership type of deal. My friends were also required to get one that connected to a cloud server to get full coverage over the business they run from home.
@KillNazisOK @Clam267@MethadosA@gaslightyourmom This is silly to argue and the most basic interview question at every public defender org. I can’t imagine simping this hard for the state
@Clam267@MethadosA @KillNazisOK @gaslightyourmom It’s like the public defender fantasy of taking every case to trial- the system would crumble but they can’t ethically do that; most clients take pleas because they want to be home and not sit in jail forever waiting for trial where they’ll be punished for exercising their rights
@Vox_Noctem@GHP_09@Righteous288712@sandinistaoliva A lawyer would highly recommend that the client not testify and warn them of the consequences of perjury in advance. Also in NYS an attorney must take “reasonable remedial measures” so first one would try to get the client to correct the record. Not always possible of course.
@PortuGeezer13@willmenaker I have had students commuting 1.5 hours each way to school because there wasn’t space in any Queens school that had programs for immigrant students, but the Bronx schools had space for new 9th graders. Kids in NYC don’t have “the right” to be enrolled in their geographic district
@PortuGeezer13@willmenaker Not in the DOE, particularly not for high school enrollment. Most are small co-located schools that DON’T require testing to get in, but for non-test schools, the enrollment office will place you based on which school has space, if they have programs you need, etc.
@BornAt3B @theashleyray I agree that more safeguards should be set up. As an immigration lawyer for children, we always screen for this. unfortunately children fleeing their home country, while entitled to more legal protections than adults, face the same issues as children anywhere in state custody.
@theashleyray Kid is in ORR custody and isn’t allowed to reunite with parent until parentage is confirmed. An HHS caseworker is accompanying this kid to go to an ORR facility/foster home, hopefully closer to family. ICE shouldn’t be involved at this point but they love to make things harder!
@bill_of_lefts Older Jewish women care A LOT about abortion rights compared to most other groups from my experience. I don’t know if it made a difference but at least my own liberal grandma liked Harris more than Biden mainly for this reason
@bill_of_lefts Also isn’t this implied about much of this type of immigration? What more is there to say about it? (Unless you want to say open borders so legal pathways for all castes/social strata from everywhere)
@bill_of_lefts The first sentence: agree… which is because they are backpackers in South America… Israelis are overrepresented because South America is inexpensive and an easy place to travel through for 6 months or so. Australians and British are typically just as bad!
