Those partnerships are the ones that can withstand all the challenges that inevitably come in a school year bc they’re built on authentic bonding & trust.

We know how kids learn 2 read 🧠📚Now we need to update our practices accordingly-& this is a great start!TY @AllisterSBOE &advocates 4 your tireless work on this. S/O to @noonankd 4 pioneering this work @garrisondcps & showing us how to implement proven approaches,school-wide.👏🏼
Reading is fundamental to our students' success. Today I introduced a budget amd to improve literacy rates by 1) establishing a taskforce to implement a citywide plan for @dcpublicschools & @dcpcsb & 2) providing literacy training for all DCPS instructional coaches. (1/2)
(2/3)&TY @brookepintodc for introducing the amd. As a reading teacher seeing the direct impact of a school-wide structured literacy model, I’m looking forward to seeing how the task force tackles some of the big Qs we have around effectively doing this work district wide…

@ScottGoldstein@BeckyCReina @EmilyRoderer @dcpublicschools 🤷🏻♀️on the short term solution. I struggle with treating COVID as endemic and doing away with quarantine policies (like England) bc the health community has warned against it (e.g. WHO). @BeckyCReina@dcpublicschools the regular pressure to not take a day off in schools is 10x worse now. Even if you were exposed, think you’re sick, or have a sick kid at home. It doesn’t make sense. And when kids who are quarantining return…they don’t get to go back to learning. They get to take … PARCC.
@BeckyCReina@dcpublicschools So many kids & staff are quarantining. Staffing shortages are getting to a breaking point. But schools have to bend over backwards to fill in gaps because of…PARCC. The whole administration of PARCC is so convoluted and complex and staff heavy that…
