Lori and George Schappell, recognized as the world’s oldest living conjoined twins, died in April 2024 at age 62. Born in 1961 in Pennsylvania, they were joined at the head and shared some brain tissue and blood vessels.
Doctors once believed they would not live past 30, but they went on to build long and independent lives. In 2007, George, who was born Dori, came out as a transgender man, making them the first known conjoined twins with different gender identities.
Lori was an avid bowler, while George had a successful career as a country singer. Their lives became a lasting example of resilience, individuality, and perseverance in the face of medical and social limits.
