Cheap fawning on & adulation of Israel will certainly get you results—loss of respect, loss of constituency, loss of elections, even with the $millions that AIPAC & the lobby showered on you. American voters are beginning to vote with their conscience & moral convictions.
I feel for Ariana Grande. Maybe she instinctively did know she needs to take time off for her health. Like she said, many things can be true at once.
But what I've seen, more than people saying unkind things to her, is genuine concern about her health. And yeah, in a normal situation, maybe most people wouldn't say anything. But in her case, she's one of the biggest pop stars on Earth.
She is extremely influential to pre-teens and teens. Young girls.. Who might start having body image issues of their own when they see her. This is a great responsibility on her - one that, I'm not sure she fully comprehends.
I really hope the time off gives her the much needed rest that she needs and that she finds away to a better, balanced life. And can impart that journey to her young fans as well. 🙏🏽
🤔 I note some believe the recent "revelations" of US missile depletion are a psyop — the US has no shortage of armaments.
I think these "revelations" are a limited hangout to distract from the fact the US is exposed as a 20th century military caught naked in a 21st century war.
I find it utterly disappointing and frankly disturbing how much my colleagues in the media have dropped the ball on covering this.
It isn't insightful to dismiss people with eating disorders, which have the highest mortality of any psychiatric illness. It isn't a Smart Take to mock people's concern for a woman who has, very publicly, and very obviously, been struggling with a deadly illness for a long time.
I understand talking about women's bodies is difficult and this is a hot-button issue that a lot of people don't know how to discuss sensitively. But this is a celebrity with millions of young fans whose lives are at stake. And her illness is being celebrated as not just normal, but aspirational.
I also understand she personally has no obligation to publicly discuss this. And I agree with that, but only to an extent. Because by virtue of her fame, WE have to publicly discuss this and de-normalize it. This is a woman with 360 million followers on Instagram, whose face is plastered over Swarovski and Givenchy ads, who performs to sold-out venues worldwide. EVERYTHING about her is sold to her fans as aspirational, and it's willfully ignorant to pretend otherwise.
Ariana Grande's art may be in "acrimonious conversation with its spectators." But anyone familiar with the psychology of eating disorders knows that this acrimony is not coming from a rational place. She may be angry about the public scrutiny, but that's because she has a disease that is telling her she is beautiful and thriving and everyone who disagrees is just jealous, even as she withers away in real time. It's completely disingenuous to pretend she has the moral high ground here. It just lends credence to her (patently wrong) claim that she is healthy and happy and look away, everyone, everything is fine.
None of this is Ariana's fault. But it's our responsibility to call this illness out for what it is, rather than continuing to look the other way and write off the discourse as misogynistic body-shaming. And failing to do so is nothing short of a moral failure. Not just for Ariana, but for the millions of young girls who need to be told, in no uncertain terms, that this is NOT normal.
No, it is not "body shaming" to note that Ariana Grande is dangerously thin. It is, instead, incredibly shameful that all of the people around her are willing to sell what is very plainly an eating disorder to girls and young women, then hide behind "body positivity" and "mind your own business."

Almost six months down the road and counting, the Iranians are systematically running the Americans out of Dodge, tail between their legs.
This is what end of empire looks like.
Decay so slow you hardly notice until one day it blows away in a strong gust of cold hard facts.
The willingness of Ariana’s team and fans to go along with her delusion that everything is fine speaks to a reality where self-destruction for thinness is not just a matter of individual mental health but also society-wide acceptance, promotion, and valorization.
Most US citizens have no interest and no desire whatsoever for their country to invade, attack, and destabilize other countries, yet their country invades, attacks, and destabilizes literally every country in the world. It's like democracy is not working, or they don't have it
