🚨Exciting News!🚨 Today marks the first day of contract bargaining for CLASP Workers United OPEIU Local 2!
Wishing our bargaining team good luck as we begin the work to strengthen our organization and future security for CLASP staff. 💪🏽🎉#UnionStrong#BargainingDay
Last week, we asked our @CLASP_DC organizational leadership for a swift voluntary recognition of our union and are excited to work together to strengthen this organization we care about and ensure our internal policies reflect our values as an anti-poverty organization.
We, the workers of the Center for Law and Social Policy (@CLASP_DC), have decided to form a union! We are primarily workers of color, and many of us were hired for our lived experience with poverty and other social issues that CLASP works on.
"The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognising this may be incapable of morality."

Have you had this experience? Eat at a DC restaurant only to find a 20% "service charge" on your bill. It just happened to me at El Sol on 11th St NW. These junk fees deceive customers about real prices and hurt workers because they look like tips but 100% goes to the owner.
The idea that more police will solve violence in DC is magical thinking. DC is the most policed city per capita in the US.
If quantity of police equaled safety, we'd be the safest city. We're not.
Crime stems from endemic poverty & systemic oppression. Cops can't fix that.
Join me tonight as we talk and learn more about what we can do to improve maternal #mentalhealth in the U.S. Thanks to @nyoohealth for hosting this important discussion!
CLASP's @ishmash will be speaking about their own personal experiences, policy, and what @CLASP_DC is doing in maternal mental health policy.

Learning from Dale Long, who was in Birmingham’s 16th St Baptist Church the day of the bombing. I had the privilege of speaking with him last night as well and am floored with his experiences and humbled from his life in service and generosity. #VoicesSummit23@Voices4HK
Here at the #VoicesSummit23 where Mayor @randallwoodfin of Birmingham, AL spoke about the 60th anniversary of the 16th St Baptist Church bombing and the power of youth organizing. ✊🏾 @Voices4HK

We use the word “crazy” too much in everyday conversations. I talk about why to think twice about using words that represent #mentalhealth conditions here: https://t.co/YWy4QvhHBQ. Thanks to @WordInBlack for publishing this piece!
