As always, whenever we are in Bandipora, my colleague from Hajin Sonawari Imtiyaz Parray graciously hosts us with a hot cup of Noon Chai (traditional salted tea) and Tomle Choet (bread made from rice flour). God bless him.

This morning began on a pleasant note as we travelled to Bandipora for a workers' meeting.

But on the way, the sight of Wular Lake broke my heart. Seeing this world-famous freshwater lake in such a pathetic condition is deeply painful. We have failed to protect one of our greatest natural treasures.

What have we turned this lake, once proudly known as Asia's second-largest freshwater lake, into over the years and decades?

I vividly remember my childhood days when Wular was full of life. Its waters were rich with Kashir Gaad (fish), Nadur (lotus stems), Gaer (chestnuts), and rich variety of vegetables grown on its fertile floating gardens and marshes.

It is painful to see how cruelly we have treated Wular and many of our other water bodies in the Valley, turning them into dumping grounds for waste and pollution.

We all share a responsibility to restore and protect these priceless natural treasures before it is too late.

The incident that took place in Bhaderwah late on Thursday night is deeply tragic and raises serious concerns.

A fair, impartial, and thorough investigation must be carried out to establish the exact circumstances that led to the firing, which claimed the life of auto driver Arif Hussain. If any negligence or wrongdoing is found, those responsible must be held fully accountable in accordance with the law.

What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking is that Arif Hussain had already lost his father, an SPO, to militant violence. Now, this young man, who was the sole breadwinner of his family, has left behind two minor children and a grieving family.

I sincerely request the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor @manojsinha_ to personally look into this matter, ensure that justice is delivered without delay, and make certain that the bereaved family receives every possible assistance, including livelihood support, from the administration.
