In 2014, a former U.S. Marine named Chris Dempsey overheard a conversation at work.

A coworker's cousin was dying.

Her name was Heather Krueger. She was battling stage 4 liver disease, and doctors warned that without a transplant, she had less than a 50% chance of surviving the next two months.

Chris had never met her.

But he asked one simple question.

"What do I have to do to help?"

He volunteered to be tested.

Against incredible odds, Chris was a match.

In March 2015, surgeons removed 55% of his healthy liver and transplanted it into the body of a woman who had been a complete stranger just months earlier.

The surgery saved Heather's life.

But somewhere between hospital rooms, appointments, fear and recovery, something neither of them had expected began to happen.

They fell in love.

By the end of 2015, Chris proposed.

On October 15, 2016, the stranger whose life he had helped save walked down the aisle and became his wife.

In her wedding vows, Heather told him,

Chris once gave her part of his liver.
