@EamonMelia Eamon in all honestly how many people read The Ditch? Not many. Also do we have serious media in this country? The answers to both those questions are the key to understand why Kyne was elected. As well as having a massive following in the rural part of that constituency.
@Kearns1010 Plenty of people in the west of Ireland specially that side still supporting FG. It's their heartland. Not surprising at all. The result was completely different for Fine Gael in Dublin Central where they finished distant 5th.
@kevintoconnor Jim is trying to position himself like the though man on that front. It's too late. That ship has sailed a while ago. Independent Ireland has already occupied that space that Jim is trying to claim.
@caulmick Close to 25% turnout in some part of Dublin Central. Cabra has surpassed that figure with over 27% turnout. Turnout is always lower in by-elections I reckon. Guessing a higher than expected turnout should be an encouraging sign for the parties on the left but we'll see later on.
@stevethewall And that's why this version of FF is almost becoming irrelevant in the current political environment. Martin argued that FG was not delivering housing when he was in opposition. Now what does it make him different from FG? FF risks to slowly disappear unless they merge with FG.
@EamonMelia Commencement figures are absolutely meaningless. Even when finished the houses delivered by FFG are not affordable for people on average salaries.
@nevpatt Coming from Europe and living in Ireland for almost 20 years, I still find it difficult to believe how everything closes so early here. But it's a cultural thing so likely it will never change. Tourists just need to adapt. I don't think Ireland will ever be like Italy or Spain.
@dublin_damo The amount of Dubliners who have moved there since Covid it's phenomenal. It has a good vibe indeed. Place will continue to grow and improve in the future.
@unadunphy They are in trouble but not for the Irish Times. For them, SF and Mary Lou are more at risk then Simon and Mehole. What is also dreadful in our country surely is our mainstream media.
@caulmick@IrishTimes I listen to their podcasts rarely these days. You know where they're heading.
Hugh & Path are happy with a permanent FFG Government. That does represent what part of the electorate here still feels. Just curious. Are traditional FFG voters happy their kids can't afford a house?
