Last in our 2017 #Islay and #Jura Primary Schools Project surveys is a #crannog on Loch nan Deala. We interpreted the survey as showing two phases, 1 with a longer causeway and 2 with an enlarged crannog. #islayheritage #KeillsPrimary #SmallIslesPrimary #ScotlandDigsDigital

@DigItScotland Hmm, the opinions are divided on that one. The chapel that is visible now, probably not earlier than 12th century and perhaps quite a bit later, but there could well be an earlier chapel underneath.

@DigItScotland The priority is very much conservation. The castle needs urgent repairs and protection from coastal erosion, so the current focus is on raising money to do that. If successful then the excavation will be directed towards mitigating those works. Watch this space! #islayheritage

One of the most iconic features of Dunyvaig Castle is the sea gate. Our Trench 2 revealed an intriguing sequence of modifications to the aperture of the sea gate including a stone than a turf platform and a lovely set of steps. #islayheritage #Dunyvaig #ScotlandDigsDigital
