@MatthewJBar With all due respect to your technical competence, such statements are bold and overconfident for people who know less about politics, statecraft and governance. It makes the fact that almost all frontier STEM people are living in their bubble universes more visible.
@business@emilychangtv So @DarioAmodei is saying that usage of AI resulting in striking of a school, killing 168 children, doesn’t even violate their red lines. Am I getting it right?

We do not and I think will not have a consensus on a fine definition of consciousness. Therefore, the debate will never be resolved. However, this is okay and fruitful. Actually, it is quite an astounding way in which we are kept reminded of our limitations in comprehension in this realm. We are humbled by the phenomena all around us continuously both at microscale and macroscale, locally and universally. Scientific humility: seek to know indefinitely more and more, yet remain in awe of the unknown.
That’s like having only P control over yourself far from optimal for sure brother.
There’s merit in competitiveness so long as the competition is for something worthy.

Actually, it’s much more profound than solvable < learnable… it deeply resonates with the lessons in great uncle Sutton’s paper i.e. kache’s gem in the video background. The marvel of human beings is in their intellectual history, the timeline which got us all the way up here and the fact that it was fundamentally enabled through our ability to express&explain things and communicate them. What’s incredible about brute force & compute enabled ml is that it yields whatever physically possible instantaneously and seemingly effortlessly which otherwise would have been devastatingly difficult if not impossible
