Dear @KKMPutrajaya@DrDzul
My COVID-19 vaccine experience:
1. Booked appointment via MySejahtera
2. Called the clinic multiple times (2 weeks and 1 week before) to confirm vaccine availability and ask which mRNA vaccine was being offered (JN.1 or LP.8.1)
Measles doesn’t “build immunity” - it kills & disables.
Short-term: Pneumonia (1/20 kids, top cause of death), encephalitis (1/1,000 → brain damage/death), 1–3 deaths per 1,000 children.
Long-term: Immune amnesia (months–years of weaker defenses) + SSPE (rare, almost always fatal brain disease years later).
More cases = LESS health. And we’ve had more cases in the last 2 years than the last 20 COMBINED. 🤯
Check out the CA Department of Public Health’s recommendation. A reminder that an N95 in crowded airports and planes is a small inconvenience compared with an infection that might follow you home and stay much longer than your vacation. 😷#LongCOVID#COVID.
Theres confusion why hitting a 35-year record for measles is a bad thing. To be clear, 2,318 cases means:
-545 hospitalized
-12,300 school days missed
-Lose immunity to other viruses
-2 kids w permanent hearing loss
-1 kid will die in 10 years from brain disease
-$204m costs
New Orleans has one of the few day camps in the US that use universal COVlD precautions so that children do not get SARS-CoV-2 infections in perpetuity.
🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: World’s First Vaccine Targeting the Entire SARS Coronavirus Family Begins Human Testing
Imagine a vaccine that doesn’t just fight COVID but every SARS-related virus, including ones still hiding in bats, waiting to jump.
That’s GBP511. And it just started human trials in Australia.🧵
New Omicron sub-lineage RF.5 detected in India.
➡️ Genome sequencing has identified RF.5 in COVID-19 samples from Andhra Pradesh. The variant is a descendant of the JN.1 lineage (via LF.7 → PY.1.1.1) and is not a recombinant variant.
➡️ The good news: There is currently no evidence that RF.5 causes more severe disease than other circulating Omicron variants. WHO is monitoring it as part of routine global genomic surveillance.
👉 Vigilance, not panic, remains the right approach.

The most dangerous part of viral infections isn’t always the initial illness:
Measles can erase immune memory
Influenza can trigger pneumonia and heart attacks
COVID can affect nearly every organ
HPV and hepatitis cause cancer
Vaccination and prevention save lives.
Argh. Cyclospora positive. The symptoms are brutal, and I've lost 6 pounds in four days.
DON'T EAT RAW VEGETABLES OR GREENS FROM GROCERY STORES OR RESTAURANTS!
A year ago, CDC made Cyclospora surveillance optional. It had been tracked for 28 years.
Today: ~3,000 cases across 31 states, no confirmed source, and CDC’s own count (843) is trailing what states are reporting by thousands.
Maybe you got through the acute infection stage of Covid with what you thought was a “mild” bout because you didn’t die, or your symptoms were mild on the surface, but does that mean you’re in the clear?
Let’s remember how Chicken Pox can lead to Shingles decades later, after one infection.
Oh and we can’t forget about HIV and how it is usually symptomless for years, before it leaves you fragile and in danger.
Or how HPV can lead to cancer down the road, and Epstein-Barr Virus is linked to MS, or polio can cause disability years after infection.
Most of these viruses cause delayed damage and death after one infection, so don’t assume you’re safe getting Covid a couple of times per year.
298 children died from flu last season. You simply can’t say you care about kids, while dismissing these numbers, and the fact that almost all of them were unvaccinated/ their deaths were preventable. 😞
