@LexDecs I hate that this is how I found out it’s your birthday. What a momentous occasion for mixed emotions. Though I’m sure our dear Wendell would insist on you having the most peaceful day possible to celebrate, even under these circumstances.
“Ask the questions that have no answers.
Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias.
Say that your main crop is the forest
that you did not plant,
that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested
when they have rotted into the mold.
Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.”
—Wendell Berry, “Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front”
@LexDecs I've been laughing at this for 10 minutes straight. I don't drink, so everyone who buys me a drink thinking it will work on me does end up saying sorry.
Experienced the most Canadian catcall from an elderly fellow at the grocery store:
“You look like a pack of Next Reds.”
“Pardon?”
“‘Cause yer smokin’.”
“Oh. Enjoy your night.”
@Joe_ICHTHUS I'm happy to police your moderate social maladjustment once more. That I was deep in the backcountry among bears and moose thinking "Huh... I wonder what horrors Joe is uttering on the bird website," is a testament to how singular of an entity you are.
It’s sad how a lot of people have this huge reservoir of devotional capacity, but don’t direct it anywhere beyond obsessing over themselves. That energy needs to be poured out somewhere. Serve people. Love someone. Create. Devote yourself to some craft. Give more of yourself away
I frequently take 1-3 days to respond to messages and my friendships are far richer for it. I treat my DMs and texts like I am writing letters. I sit at my desk every evening to give thoughtful, earnest attention to my correspondence. This is how much I love and respect you all.
i always have grace for bad texters bc i think us having unprecedented access to each other has created sometimes unrealistic demands for people’s attention whenever we want it. at the same time…yall can’t expect to maintain relationships with people u won’t text back lol
I'm convinced LinkedIn knows who your worst former coworker is and will endlessly recommend them as a connection until you either get a new worst former coworker or block the old one.
@Joe_ICHTHUS@mishapathy Trust that we have your best interests in mind, Joe. This will go so much smoother for you if you stop resisting our attempts to turn your soul back toward the light.
The cost of living in community is that one must learn to navigate social friction with grace and loving-kindness.
One becomes far less lonely when they stop cowering away from the difficult, often painful work of walking through disagreement hand-in-hand with others.
