"You should stop relying on Black people to educate you. We do not exist to make you feel comfortable. Before even looking at either of us, you must call yourself in. Confused? Maybe try decolonizing your mind." https://t.co/BcxcAIC1A5
This is huge. Canada is home to most of the world's mining companies. Today, a group of Tanzanians has filed in Canadian court against Canadian mining giant Barrick Gold for grave human rights violations at the company’s North Mara gold mine in Tanzania.

It's that time of year where the temperature drops and police dedicate their time to kicking people out of train stations who are simply in there seeking shelter from the elements.
New $8M request from police. City council raised their budget 4 times this year AND reinstated the funding formula while gaslighting about how it would make police “more accountable”. What mental gymnastics will council uses to justify this funding?

Just last week local politicians were gushing about the opening of a new Loblaw’s in the ice district, the pillar of Edmonton’s gentrification.

@TaylorMcNallie Mountains of legal fees, continued intimidation from officers on the street. This is the reality for Black and Indigenous activist communities, and it’s how the police system eliminates threats to its power.
Powerful interview with @TaylorMcNallie in our latest episode, out now! Thanks to Taylor for coming on the show and being candid about harassment from police, white supremacists, and “allies.”

@TaylorMcNallie Since 2020, Taylor has faced numerous criminal charges stemming from protests against police brutality.
Law enforcement at these events frequently overlook violence by white supremacists, but are quick to charge Black protestors for acting in self defense.
Today I recognize the many Black immigrants and refugees who come to this country escaping the violence brought on by the imperial core, specifically child soldiers like Latjor Tuel who still ended up being murdered by the state even after coming to a place he thought was safe.
@coreyosmith@michaeljanz Cutting the budget seems appropriate. If there is need for a rec centre that far west, it doesn’t need to be 2x as much as one of the city’s largest. Resurfacing the debate is also appropriate, not everything council does involves the transparency or public engagement it should
@coreyosmith@michaeljanz If the point is that projects get more expensive over time, doesn't that mean Lewis will end up even more expensive than 2x Terwillegar? Inflation was already included in that comparison
@coreyosmith@michaeljanz What did you find? Looks like Terwillegar was approved at $90M in 2006 ($126M today) and completed for $140M in 2011 ($177 today). Assuming there are no budget increases to Lewis, @michaeljanz is right it will cost more than double
