No political party is perfect. But one party can be demonstrably worse than another party. This is BC right now. The NDP have not been perfect but the Conservatives will make things far, far worse in BC.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour If a teacher believes that Allah is the one true God, you would be okay if they then singled out, ridiculed, allowed a kid to get bullied if they believed in Jesus Christ only?
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour You really don’t understand what SOGI is if you are saying things like this. Ergo, you will continue down this road as you can’t comprehend the facts.
To conclude, you don’t understand what SOGI is, the School Act or the Human Rights Code.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour When you say “gender ideology” it’s a sign you are not trying to explain anything.
No need to explain, I know why it’s contentious. It’s called ignorance. People think they know what SOGI is but they don’t…OR purposely lie about what it is to push a hateful narrative.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour It seems the fact that gender identity is protected under the Human Rights Act is your actual issue. Your gripe is with the LAW so dunk on those responsible for that and spread your ignorance that way.
@GusBrinks68@RichTweets Absolutely. It’s why “removing SOGI” really isn’t a thing - teachers aren’t going to allow bullying to happen because it’s not there. It’s a resource document btw. It helps teachers navigate a difficult topic IF it arises in their classroom.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour It is the BC Human Rights Code that mandates it, not SOGI. SOGI isn’t something that is prescribed or mandated…but the law is, the BC Human Right Code is. Either, you have absolutely no idea how the school system works or you are being purposely dense so your narrative fits.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour It’s covered in the BC Human Rights Code so it’s law teachers abide by it, same religion is covered. Teachers cannot bring personal opinions into the school - by law. That’s why a teacher would get fired. These are the facts, sorry they don’t fit your narrative.
@themidasmonk@tboyblues@vancolour Both are covered under the Human Rights Code. Sexual orientation & gender identity is protected under the code, same as freedom of religion etc. They are treated exactly the same. If anyone tells you different, they are lying. And teachers are not afraid of any voices.
Schools are front lines re: social issues. Ergo, teachers have to navigate said issues, while respecting all students & making them feel welcome in spaces. There are resources to help teachers do this (eg questions from kids or conflict between kids) - SOGI is an example of this.
My late husband chose the day he would die. And I was beside him when that day came.
That sentence is incredibly difficult to write.
But it’s also why I feel compelled to say something.
Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of misinformation about MAID online. Claims about what the process looks like, who can access it, what safeguards exist and how decisions are made.
For me, this isn’t an abstract debate. It isn’t a political talking point. It’s part of my life.
My late husband chose medical assistance in dying. I was there through the process—from the conversations and assessments to the safeguards, the waiting, the preparation and, ultimately, the moment when he died.
I know what it feels like to sit beside someone you love while they make one of the most profound decisions a person can make.
I also know that my experience is just that—my experience. It doesn’t make me an expert on every aspect of MAID, and it doesn’t mean everyone’s circumstances are the same.
But I do think firsthand experience matters.
So I want to share what I learned—not to tell anyone what they should believe about MAID, but to help separate what actually happens from what people are claiming happens online.
You can support MAID. You can oppose it. You can have complicated feelings about it.
But whatever position you take, I believe we owe people the truth.
Because behind every debate about MAID are people.
People who are suffering.
People who are making impossible decisions.
People who love them.
And families who have to live with those decisions long after the conversation online has moved on.
Premier @Dave_Eby is facing the challenge of a lifetime for a progressive leader here in BC and despite the naysayers, he has stood up for British Columbians in their "time of need", not the $millionaires & $billionaires. 3rd year in a row that rents are dropping, he refuses to put US liquor back on our shelves and now he's standing up to developers who think he should be supporting them in their "time of greed". The whole world is reeling from the US leader's "conservative" insanity! Eby is a leader with uncommon strength and resolve and displays commendable responsibility to the average British Columbian family. #bcpoli
i went to high school with this guy and he and his best friend wore trump hats to school every day from 2015 onward. oh and his bff was a literal nazi. a few of us were contacted by a reporter after we graduated because it turns out he was quite prominent in the online far right
The honest truth about X: most accounts here are right wing trolls and bots. The algorithm favours them. They are angry, abusive, insulting and often wish you personal harm. They are highly unintelligent and very loud. They are often toxic due to unhappy or unfulfilled lives.
Imagine being so fragile.
Imagine if your life is terrible because of a land acknowledgment, pathetic. Demonstrates how much hate courses through them.
Oof, and these fragiles want to “lead”.
Jim couldn’t even “lead” a classroom - useless at his job.
When will politicians learn that punching down on vulnerable kids is not a Canadian value.
Tide is turning. We aren’t America and we don’t want that kind of hate and divisiveness in our country.
