another thing I discovered thanks to double-checking for this thread is that mitsubishi pencil, the company that makes art supplies and stationery, is not part mitsubishi, who are known for their cars, so the more you know xd

hi, japanology student here!! this is actually due to yamaha being one of the keiretsu, japanese corporate groups that branch out to several types of industries. they originate from zaibatsu, conglomerates lead by wealthy and influental families during the meiji era

this is a very basic rundown, if you're interested in the topic I recommend doing some research as it can get pretty extensive! I also did a presentation on keiretsu two years ago so unfortunately I don't remember much more than this + I kinda hated that class 💔
