Deletion, retention and backup.
If your emails and documents are important to your business then please treble check what settings you have on your Office 365. Some accounts are only set to keep items that are deleted for 14 days – this is unlikely to be enough.

A client just asked is there a quick way to get to the settings on my PC - yes, do a right hand mouse click on the Windows start button on the bottom left of your screen.

The cloud Vs local. Storing your data on the cloud has many advantages, but if you have a large amount of files and run most of your business from a single location, don’t dismiss having a local server/storage system for some or all of your files.

Disposal of old IT equipment – if you have old IT equipment cluttering up store cupboards and corners of offices talk to your IT provider, they should arrange for these to be correctly disposed of (or better still reused by a charity) at no cost to you.

The physical wellbeing of staff is something that has a well-defined, and continually updated, framework (things like CSCS, IPAF, DSE, COSHH etc etc etc).
Imagine if alongside a RAMS there was recognised “Wellbeing” equivalent.

Yesterday we helped move and setup all the IT equipment for a client (we have had since 2007) to new premises on the other side of Cambridge – hard work but well done to the team.

We have completed a data cabling job for a client connecting their new garden office to the house, but they wanted to make sure that no cable was visible, so we dug and buried the run leaving no trace we had been!

If your internet router has never had any updates applied to it, then it could be vulnerable to attacks – it’s worth checking with the manufacturers website to see if it is up to date.

If you still run a Monday to Friday backup for your data, but have staff now working over the weekend because they are hybrid working, make sure your backups are also doing their bit to protect you on Saturday and Sunday!
