@BurtchaellJohn@GAli6969 He committed a spontaneous violent crime & had a weapon, gards had to arrest him. there was also the chance he would have harmed his family if he entered the house.& Irish Times reporting family had protective order against him - another reason gards could not let him enter house
@PolicedPodcast@EmmaDabiri Is your opinion informed by operational police experience and/or other first hand experience dealing with very violent individuals in potentially life-threatening situations?
@PolicedPodcast@EmmaDabiri If a person is in crisis or having an episode, that alters or mitigates the effect of violent action they take or makes their any less injurious or lethal?
@ciara_w163 you mean William Eagers? No, gards smashed a window & threw in flash grenades which stunned & incapacitated him. This worked because he was inside. Same grenades are not effective outdoors. If Nkencho was inside the flash grenades would have been part of the escalation protocol.
@AngusGae @croninjonathan@MancoIE@Hack16 its proven as the best way to hit a moving target at close range which is important if that person is an immediate threat to the lives of others. are you expecting gards to have sniper training or something like that?
@foesaa it wasn't 15 armed guards.majority of the gards were regular unarmed guards, an armed unit arrived towards the end of the timeframe, most likely 2 or 3 members. He had already attacked unprovoked, who says he wouldn't have attacked his family members if left be...
@PunditSeamus @WoolacombeEnfo1 @croninjonathan do you know how tasers work? two half-inch long metal hooks are fired and both need to get under the skin for the current to be passed. Try getting those into the legs of a someone in heavy clothing engaging in a pretty animated knife attack.
@AngusGae @MancoIE@croninjonathan@Hack16 people can still be actively causing harm or attempting to after being shot. many very disturbing videos on youtube of police bodycam footage showing this. bodycams for police long overdue here for everyone's sake
@JamesJGough @vinny_carwash @Evebybella @rtenews because William Eagers was inside, flash grenades were used to disorientate him so he could be subdued. they are not effective outside.
@KEMcLachlan William Eagers was the perpetrator here, Jean was the victim. William was inside his house, that's why flash grenades were used - they are not effective outside.
@awnyehk @bazyjonesy@sylviahartt@edthestatesman@damo_joyce George nkencho wasn't shot as punishment, he was shot to prevent potential serious injury/death of gardai, bystanders and his family who were present. You can be 100% sure Isabelle Guzman would have encountered force to prevent her causing injury or death to her family and police
@Eoin_Dineen If you are talking about the Irish Times article, it seems the person quoted is explaining why Gardai are trained to shoot in the torse rather than limbs (in answer to a high number of public questions about this) rather than speculating?
@seriouslyhilary Ross Maher (referred to in the article) was not shot by police because he dropped the knife when pepper sprayed: A very important difference and nothing to do with race.
