There is no picture or video of this man that you will see today & not feel proud as a Nigerian.
Just look at these pictures. Nigeria used to be fucking respected! OBJ is forever goated!
THE APC IS A WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT!
Go through the comment section & read “real accounts” of how he managed to move millions of Nigerians out of poverty — into the middle class bracket (without breaking a sweat).
The testimonies are in their hundreds, thousands even! OBJ touched lives in ways that no one can deny. And he made no noise about it. There was no propaganda whatsoever.
Obasanjo was hand’s on. He never hid behind Aso Rock walls. Baba Iyabo met Nigerians on the streets. OBJ held regular meetings with captains of industries. He had no idiots like Reno, Bwala, & other mobsters — insulting & gaslighting your entire existence. No one told you to fry Akara, roast corn, nor bake kulikuli.
OBJ held regular presidential media chats. He had the ability to articulate his visions. The man was/is presidential. You had no presidential (first son) nor a presidential first daughter (Iyaloja General) disturbing your peace.
Poverty eradication was central to his success. OBJ had Poverty Alleviation as his key objective
He did not weaponize poverty. He pursued the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) vigorously. Back then Vision 2010 enjoyed repeat telecast via NOI’s jingles. I hardly talk about his politics. My agenda is strictly his Economic Reforms & robust Foreign Policy.
Back then, your Green Passport & the Naira were strong. Teachers bought cars. Middle class families had up to two cars — a Volvo & a Mercedes or a Peugeot. In some other families, you had up to three cars packed outside.
The Volkswagen (tortoise) was almost always the third leg. Teachers & Civil Servants bought cars. They bought lands & they built houses as well. Nigerians shopped online & had the items shipped to Nigeria. Back then, Nigerians had disposable income & Dubai na water. Nigerians were always there on regular shopping sprees.
Upward Mobility was everywhere! Middle income Nigerians had enough to eat & empty inside the trash. On his watch, goats & stray dogs had enough to eat at nights. Midnight was a feast for the animals. You woke up in the morning & found your dustin on the floor — completely emptied by four-legged scavengers.
Highlight, I wish the Third Term Agenda succeeded. Nigeria would have moved past Rice, Agbado, Kulikuli, Akara, 2K, & tomatoes.
I was among the last Millennials. I was born an American to Nigerian parents. Right about the time the military left, I was sent to Nigeria to learn the culture, as well as the language & the family business. I was sent to live with nanna.
My nanna just retired as a Zonal Inspector of Education, & by then, she had started her own private school. That was the time that Gbemu Aremu came to power. I witnessed everything!
The teachers christened his jumbo salary “Gbemu Aremu,” after his middle name.
By the time Jonathan was sworn in as the president, I was back in the states for college.
No one has lifted Nigerians out of poverty & into the middle class on the scale & in the manner that Matthew Okikiola did it. I say these things without apology to anyone! Baba Iyabo was not a saint, but he did Nigerians right!
Much of the surviving footprints from that Golden Era can be traced to his reforms.
Strong banks, EFCC & ICPC, PenCOM & NHIS, the ECA, Abuja National stadium, the 8th All Africa Games (COJA), CHOGM, Nigeria ‘99, etc. Omotosho, Olorunsogo (Papalanto), Geregu, & Alaoji Power Stations. The list is endless!
Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo GCFR created the now disappearing Nigerian middle class families.
This is nostalgia, Nigeria has seen BETTER DAYS! Like it or not, he is the best you had, the best you may ever have! PROVE ME WRONG!
What in God's name are these politicians doing? It's crazy. The more I think of it the more angry I get. A teacher, a father was slaughtered on the internet and we are moving freely. There is no unrest in this country? What are they doing? Where's our humanity for God's sake?
