🚨ICYMI🇬🇭🏝️🚧: The destruction of Polo Beach Club & other beach businesses at La Pleasure Beach is a huge blow to Ghana’s pop culture & nightlife ecosystem that has contributed to many memories of vibrant Detty December glory.

Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe has clarified that, unlike the earlier demolitions around the Kpeshie Lagoon, this exercise was NOT part of government’s Post-Flood Mitigation exercise.

He says the demolition was carried out under National Security supervision at the request of Labadi Beach Hotel, which is seeking to reclaim the beachfront.

Beyond the nightlife, this ecosystem offered employment opportunities to both young & old within the precinct, and its destruction will inevitably mean lost jobs, livelihoods & investments, with questions now surrounding what happens to affected investors.

With the beachfront already the subject of a legal dispute, it will be interesting to see what becomes of these sites over the next few years.

Jamaica has welcomed 43 nurses from Ghana as part of the health partnership between both countries.

The nurses have expertise in areas such as emergency care, critical care, paediatrics, oncology, mental health and midwifery. They will be placed in public hospitals across Jamaica, including hospitals in the Western and South East regions and the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The four-year agreement allows for up to 400 healthcare professionals from Ghana to support Jamaica’s health system.

The partnership will also allow Jamaican and Ghanaian healthcare professionals to share knowledge and strengthen areas such as primary healthcare, health insurance and the management of chronic diseases.
