• Parandur Greenfield Airport — planned investment: ₹20,000–32,700 crore, with 2 runways, cargo hub, AeroCity, and capacity for 10 crore passengers annually.

• Chennai Metro extension to Parandur — ₹15,906 crore for a 53-km corridor with 20 stations connecting Poonamallee, Sriperumbudur, Sunguvarchatram, and the airport.

• Initial metro preparatory works already sanctioned — ₹2,126 crore allocated for land acquisition and preliminary civil works.

• Chennai–Bengaluru Expressway connectivity and new greenfield corridors planned around the airport region to create a western logistics and industrial belt.

• AeroCity, logistics parks, hotels, commercial zones, and industrial expansion around Sriperumbudur–Parandur expected to attract thousands of crores in private investment and jobs.

If Parandur Airport is dropped, Tamil Nadu risks losing ₹50,000+ crore worth of planned infrastructure — including the airport, ₹15,906 crore metro link, expressway connectivity, AeroCity, logistics hubs, and massive job creation that could transform western Chennai into India’s next economic corridor.

Dropping Parandur airport at this stage will create a huge political and legal backlash for Govt of TN

Land acquired for Parandur Airport was legally notified specifically for a public-purpose airport project. If the government later converts it into an SEZ or commercial project, affected landowners can challenge it in court as “change of purpose” acquisition. It could also trigger political backlash because people gave up land for aviation infrastructure, not private industrial or real-estate development.
