💻 I ran an experiment at our weekly all-hands last week: zero laptops.
We always open with a round-robin of updates. I looked up mid-round: half the room heads-down, typing. Eyes glued to screens. No reactions. No eye contact.
In the room, but not IN the room.
So we tried something: one meeting, everyone fully present. No screens. Just listening and talking.
The first five minutes felt strange. Then something shifted — with nothing to hide behind, people started reacting. Interrupting. Building on half-formed ideas out loud. The quietest people had the best ideas.
Here's the thing nobody tells you: note-taking isn't documentation. It's a tax on attention. The person typing isn't fully in the meeting — they're acting as a slow, expensive microphone.
"But we'll forget everything!" — that's the easy part. One small device from @ComuAI_ on the table turns the whole conversation into a recap, decisions, and action items before we're back at our desks. 📝
