Good morning,
@mikegolicjr@thegolics
With the 24 team tournament in the horizon, would now be the time for sports (college sports in particular) to discuss promotion/relegation?
If everyone is getting paid, everyone is a professional.
Right?
Not going to GameDay? Every stadium is a stage this weekend.
Bring a STOP 24 sign to your tailgate or watch party. Snap a photo, post it, and tag @CFBStop24.
You don't need a press credential to show college football what its fans think. #Stop24
The thing about 24 that bothers me most is…
Who is this for?
It’s not because TV was begging for it. ESPN had to be convinced.
It’s not for a boatload of new cash. Losing conf champ games is gonna make this a minimal gain.
It’s not because the 22nd team has any shot at a natty. It doesn’t.
It’s certainly not done with the health, safety, or academic success of the players in mind since they don’t even get a say in this.
It’s entirely to appease the people donating the money that keeps a financially irresponsible business model afloat. It’s discounting success so schools can say “look what your donation bought.”
It’s an industry hellbent on treating investors and bosses as the customer, and customers as an infinite resource that will keep coming back no matter what.
almost two years later & they have the “protect college sports” act, 24-team playoff, conference cap increase, even more realignment, etc.
sad state of affairs.
The Pop Tart Bowl had better TV ratings than multiple playoff games in a *12 team playoff* earlier this year. So America has spoken on this issue. Pop Tarts.
Some people hate USC
Some people hate Notre Dame
Some people hate Alabama
Some people hate Ohio State
Some people hate Michigan
Some people hate Texas
Some people hate Oklahoma
But everyone hates the 24-team College Football Playoff
Do you want to know why college football is in its current shape today? I’ll give you one picture.
This all started because of Texas & they aren’t getting enough hate for it
