@danrobinson Ah I see. There prob exists some n block delay such that price fluctuation risk would make JIT-ing 0 EV, curious on hearing your intuition on what n would be?
@deliriusz_eth@0xfoobar “Technically, for every smart contract address, there is 2⁹⁶ — 1 hashes that return the same address, because only 160 leftmost bits are used as an address”
(Not impt but genuinely curious, idk the ans) is this true? Does CR + preimage resistance imply normal distribution?
@deliriusz_eth@0xfoobar If using birthday attack, the most probable “attack” is:
1. Spend ~~~2m (and 10^23 of storage) to find a collision
2. Offer 1 of the salts to a user and pray they send >2m to it before deploying some sc account (safe, 6900)
Extremely unlikely for this path to be profitable
@ZainanZhou@VitalikButerin Read this way back in 2018 and it stuck with me but I forgot the source. Have been looking for this exact quote for a while, thanks for sharing!
@josephdelong >says he has a degree
>ask if it’s a bachelors or postgrad
>he doesn’t understand
>tell him that a bachelors takes ~4 years, postgrads are 2-5 on top
>he laughs and says “its a phd”
>call his school
>it’s not a postgrad degree
>it’s not a bachelors either
@DennisonBertram@josephdelong@androolloyd Set of addrs is smaller since it’s 20 bytes of the hashed priv key iirc. Also, collisions are theoretically possible, just statistically extremely improbable
In personal news, I'm pretty excited to share I'm joining @immunefi as Head of Research, guiding strategic development of products and features ✨🫡
A great group of amazing people!
It matches my obsession for security and building 🏗️👏
@ZainanZhou@koeppelmann With enough incentives, permissionless can lead to decentralization
Two extremes:
1. Chainlink vrf has lots of non-chainlink node operators - decentralized but not permissionless
2. No-adoption PoW crypto only mined by its own foundation - permissionless but not decentralized
@BarryFried1 Isn’t it impossible to make money jitting yourself ever? Consider swap $ and LP $ as a closed system. you save on swap fees on the swap portion, but end up trading less.
Only gain you get here is that you can split trades multi block to get better execution for trades w size
