@NancyIsime678 Interesting how life comes full circle. First our parents carry a lot of our responsibilities. Then one day we start carrying some of theirs.
@roxie_ug Agreed. We often celebrate independence, but not enough people talk about interdependence. There are phases in life when parents support us, and later there are phases when we support them. Neither should be something to be ashamed of.
@wine_x13 That’s awesome. I think a lot of us spend our 20s trying to become independent, then our 30s start making us appreciate having parents around a lot more.
Has living together changed how you think about supporting your mom as she gets older?
@twright55 Interesting perspective. I think people have very different relationships with their parents and there’s probably no single right approach.
Out of curiosity, do you think your view would be different if one of your parents had needed ongoing support as they got older?
I know where every work document is.
But if my parents had a medical emergency today, I’m not sure I could quickly find:
• insurance details
• medical records
• doctor contacts
• current medicines
For those living away from your parents, what’s the hardest part?
@kellytx2 That daily worry is real. I'm in Thailand, and my parents are in India. I'm building something, so at least I know they're okay. Can't help with assisted living, but hope you find the right approach.❤️
