In 1947, during the Chinese Civil War, 32 women from a small village learned that an advancing army needed to cross a river to reach the battlefield.
They tore the wooden doors off their homes, carried them into the freezing water, and stood there for hours holding them up to form a human bridge while approximately 2,000 soldiers crossed with all their equipment.
Without their help, the soldiers would have had to wade through the river and enter battle in soaking wet clothes, risking hypothermia, sickness and death.
Historical accounts describe soldiers being so moved by the women’s sacrifice that they initially hesitated to step onto the bridge. The women urged them forward. The soldiers understood what these women were sacrificing for them.
There’s a lesson here about the gender war.
When men and women are united by a common struggle, they develop a profoundly deep love and respect for one another.
I think we need that again.

China is absolutely insane. As if a pork glut weren’t enough, now it has an electricity glut too…
Just think about how insane this sentence sounds: “Data centers are the solution to electricity oversupply.”
The minimum wage is a great example of a policy that MPs love to use for virtue points that is actually incredibly harmful in practice, unless used as a true floor like in the USA.
The state should not be setting national wage floors that are 66% of the mean salary.
How dare people aspire to earn well / more than me is a pervasive attitude in the UK.
£100k+ jobs are available to everyone. It’s not some sort of secret cabal.
100k isn’t what it used to be, you’d hardly call someone earning £62k in 2010 rich, but that is what 100k is today
28 years ago, Karl Bushby left the UK in an attempt to become the first person to circumnavigate the world on foot.
Yesterday, he arrived in Dover for the final leg of his journey to his mother’s home in Hull.
Why are we giving them ideas 😭

🇬🇧🇨🇳 UK is preparing tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles to stop Beijing from flooding the British market with cheap vehicles, per The Times
Britain is preparing potential tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles amid concerns that Beijing is flooding the UK market with state-subsidized cars.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds is drawing up the measures, with ministers considering matching the EU’s tariffs of up to 45% on Chinese EVs.
Excl: Labour’s energy policy is “batshit crazy” and the department overseeing net zero is “basically the ministry for P45s”, one of Britain’s most powerful union leaders has said.
In an interview with The Times, Gary Smith accused the government of relying on “sticking-plaster politics” while companies struggled with high energy costs and warned that rising energy bills would create a raft of fresh strikes across the public and private sector.
On Jackdaw and Rosebank he said: “If they do not do this, it will damage hugely the government’s credibility, and it will massively damage investment because that infrastructure, as I understand it, is ready to go — billions of investment. And if it does not now happen, who in their right mind is going to put money into this country?”

Zack Polanski tells Green Party conference: "We need to stop governments using the blunt tool of interest rates to control inflation."
He adds: "I meet mortgage holders who are constantly worried about renewing. They tell me they crave certainty about the future."
If he’s doing ‘wider discussion’ the best option is to rebuild Birmingham Airport on currently empty land around the HS2 Interchange - 10 mins to Bham, 30 to London with 2 runways next to the NEC and JLR, in his words, “the jewel in the crown of the UK economy”. @RichParkerLab
🇿🇼 ZIMBABWE’S INFLATION FALLS BELOW 🇺🇸 US AND 🇬🇧 UK AFTER ADOPTING HARD MONEY
Zimbabwe’s annual inflation fell to 2.9% in August, below the UK at 3.1% and the US at 3.4%.
The milestone is mind-blowing for a country synonymous with hyperinflation.
In 2008, Zimbabwe’s inflation spiraled so far out of control that prices were roughly doubling every 24 hours, culminating in the infamous 100 trillion Zimbabwe dollar banknote.
Zimbabwe introduced the gold and foreign-reserve-backed ZiG currency in 2024.
