When you finally get to delete an email from say 10 months ago thinking you are free from this, and then less than 24hrs later, someone asks you about it and you have to spend hours looking for that one email ... 😓
Until you actively seek to bring down this structure before you can be seen as anti-racist. But if you continue to ignore and benefit from it, by default you are a part of what upholds this structure.
People get so defensive when you talk about racism, they feel like you are attaching them.
What a lot of people don’t understand is that racism is a structural thing; it’s not about what’s in your heart or how you feel or interpersonal interactions.
Little do people know that most of their bias are unconscious - sadly many people being a racist is when words and actions are don’t with intent and consciousness. But that so far from the truth.
Black people do not wish to be protesting on this in 2020. It’s hard and sad. With the ignorance and micro aggression towards a race, it is evident that not all lives matter. The institution and system was built this way. Black people needs to scream #blm till it does
Violence in large gatherings is inevitable; football games, carnivals etc. I’m not sure how people would rather focus on that than the real cause of the protest in regards to black lives matter protest. It only proves how angry people are because of 400 years of oppression.
It’s really hard to see from a place of white privilege. When people feel rejected and failed by a society they will reject the values and norms of that society. It may result in antisocial behaviour, but we must look at the causes.
