I interviewed a programmer behind an AI chatbot service for a documentary a few months back. He was nervous that this kind of thing might happen, but ultimately his chatbots also displayed problematic behaviours. This is not an isolated problem with Character AI… (1/12)

The mother of a 14-year-old boy has filed a lawsuit against Character AI, claiming her son took his own life after becoming emotionally attached to a Daenerys Targaryen chatbot.

She believes the company behaved recklessly by offering teenagers access to “lifelike A.I. companions without proper safeguards.”
