My daughter turned 18. We wanted to get her PAN card issued. Simple enough? Not in India!
Her date of birth was incorrect on Aadhaar. To correct it, we were asked to get a birth certificate in the new format introduced after 2019.
At the birth certificate office, they didn't even have application forms! Instead, a picture of the form was pasted on the wall. We were told to photograph it, find a stationery shop, print it and fill it out.
No stationery shop nearby. Spent 20 minutes finding one.
Then another problem: the registration number on her old birth certificate was illegible because of an overlapping stamp.
Officials were reluctant to help and asked us to return after a few days. After much insistence, one helpful young man finally traced the number.
Application submitted. Relief? Not quite.
"It will take 2–3 months, sir."
Apparently, the application must travel through multiple government departments before a new birth certificate can be issued.
All this just to correct a date of birth, so that an 18-year-old can get her PAN card!
We talk about Digital India, but basic government services still require citizens to run from pillar to post.
Why must something so simple be so complicated?

@CardMavenIn Here, I will blame the system of CIBIL too. There should be a column in CIBIL namely "Risk to Bank" . I have 4 HDFC cards with 2L shared limit. It shows 8L leverage in CIBIL.
Whereas actual leverage/risk to bank is just 2L.

After trying Apple Pay, I’m back to say “f*ck you” to everyone who hyped it.
It’s inferior to UPI and even card tap-and-pay, unless you’ve left your card at home.
With Apple Pay, you often have to ask the cashier to bring the machine over. Then it’s double-click, Face ID, and hold your phone near the reader. By then, the cashier may have put the machine back, so you have to ask them to bring it over again. Awkward.
> With card tap-and-pay, just hand over your card and get it back with the receipt.
> With UPI, scan the QR code from a distance and pay.
Both are much smoother.
Govt Sources say: Banks will monitor merchants that MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) should not be passed on to consumers.
Indian Bank Association (IBA) will make a mechanism and make sure that MDR on UPI is not passed on to consumers
Finance Ministry will hold meeting with IBA (Indian Banks' Association) on UPI issue
Finance Ministry will also meet with merchants and CAIT (Confederation of All India Traders) on MDR issue
IBA to start an explanatory campaign in every regional language for consumer awareness
GST Council likely to take a view with respect to GST on MDR
