@Keir_Starmer (Then again, this is just my random thoughts from a somewhat random citizen on social media, so I doubt it'll be read :p
Will channel the same energy into other productive means such as requests for comment or consultations!)
@Keir_Starmer There are real opportunities with that technology to make things better for many, but there's also many directions it can go which enrich the wealthy and disregard those who make a living at current, and if the social structures aren't in place to protect against that...
@ScottMcGready While I was a student I noticed this - the moment I'd mention that I was a student it felt like the conversation took a 'step down' to general studenty advice without much more relating to the organisation or specific skills etc, though it could have been me underselling myself
@andreas_krieg@DSD_Kings from a misunderstanding, but please take care in the future to make sure it isn't confusing or misleading, both for your own sake and that of the organisations you represent!!
@andreas_krieg@DSD_Kings there's clearly been confusion in thinking you're attributing the attack as a whole to software rather than more physical means, which goes against what the technical community is finding.
I understand there's probably no malice and that things probably stem...
@Anfieldexile There's an obsession in the press and I guess the general public around specifically Oxford and Cambridge that I'm not sure is wholly justified given the vested interests and knowledge imbalances at play (people rarely go to more than 2 unis, and those with clout want to keep it)
@Anfieldexile Personally, I partially reject the premise of the article, in that rather than looking solely to have more spaces at top-tier universities go to a wider demographic, we should also be looking to have more universities be considered top-tier?
@Homer_EFG@MartinSLewis That's just me though - perhaps I'm naive and don't pay attention to the warning signs, and it'll all be revealed as credible in a few days - in that case, I'll worry about it then rather than now!
@Homer_EFG@MartinSLewis These sorts of rumors can also be spread to try to sew discontent around something that won't even happen because 'clearly they were planning to, otherwise it would have never come up', so by not buying in too much it helps me judge things more on actions rather than speculation!
(On a broader note, I'm also not sure how consent can be given on a fully informed basis when you provide a list of 500 partners to scroll through - why would you even be sharing data with that many partners anyway? The ecosystem is broken ๐)
Now even @thetimes have gotten on board with a 'data paywall' model where they demand you either allow their data sharing with over 500 partners or pay a fee for access...
Hope the ICO shine light on this soon with the consultation earlier this year (that I only just found ๐)
@MartinSLewis It's a bit of a weird one because one property one charge seems simple enough, but it's also regressive taxation especially with the out-of-date band system - personally I hope it doesn't come to fruition, at least not without a broader modernisation effort!
@MartinSLewis I worry headlines like that are mainly looking to rile people up...
A government deciding not to rule out something, keeping potential options open, doesn't mean they're going to do something! I'm not ruling out going skydiving tomorrow, although I'm also not planning on it :p
