The darkest mindset truth about elite footballers that nobody talks about:
Most of them are not driven by pure love for the game.
They’re driven by fear.Fear of becoming irrelevant.
Fear of the next young player taking their spot.
Fear of waking up one day and realizing the money, the fame, and the identity are gone.
That’s why so many top players become obsessive, cold, and almost paranoid about recovery, diet, sleep, and every tiny detail.
The same mindset that makes them champions is the same one that destroys their personal life, relationships, and mental health after retirement.
They don’t play because they love it.
They play because they’re terrified of what happens when they stop. The real edge isn’t talent.
It’s the ability to live with that constant fear without letting it eat you alive.
Do you think most elite players actually enjoy football… or are they just addicted to not losing?
Roberto Martínez to the Netherlands still looks like a risky move.
Yes, he won the Nations League with Portugal in 2025 that counts.
But look at the bigger picture: with Belgium’s golden generation he only got a World Cup bronze, and with a star-studded Portugal side he exited Euro 2024 in the quarters and the 2026 World Cup in the last 16.
He has a history of overcomplicating things and not getting the absolute maximum out of elite squads when it really matters.
Van Gaal still feels like the safer and more logical option right now.
He knows the Dutch system inside out, has the authority this group needs, and already made it clear he’s ready.
Experience + clarity > another “almost” foreign experiment.
Mourinho still wants two more players. 👀
My take on Real Madrid’s possible next moves:
Midfield:
Zubimendi : looks like the best fit as a deep controller. But Arsenal want €90M+ and Chelsea are also in the race. Madrid could’ve signed him much cheaper from Sociedad last year.
Adam Wharton: is being monitored, but he’s not a priority. Palace will demand a big fee.
Left-footed CB:
Bastoni: looks the most realistic option right now and would fit Mourinho’s system perfectly. Possible if Madrid accept a €60-70M price tag.
Schlotterbeck: is very difficult now , his clause has expired and he’s dealing with an injury.
Gvardiol: was linked earlier, but he has already renewed with City until 2031.
These are the names that make the most sense to me right now.
Who do you see coming to Madrid? 👀
@FabrizioRomano@MadridXtra
he is lower now at progressive/vertical passing volume is still low and final-third output is almost non-existent. Aerial game also needs work despite the height.
At City he can develop fast.
Maresca’s system + daily training with elite midfielders will force him to become more progressive and decisive. Physical intensity of the Premier League will also harden him up.
Huge potential, but needs 1-2 seasons of proper development to become a consistent starter.
@agyakwa_jo@ESPNFC R9 — 1 season: 47 goals in 51 games.
Lewandowski — 4 seasons: 120 goals in 193 games .
R9 giving the memorable performance in one season .
@DeadlineDayLive Rashford can still deliver quality, last season at Barça proved that.
Under Carrick the relationship looks healthier than before, so a proper chance is possible.
But at 28 with that wage, he needs consistent output right away , otherwise the rebuild talk won’t last long.
Pitarch got a solid chance last season (16 first-team appearances) and mostly made the most of it especially under Arbeloa where he looked fearless, connected play well and didn’t look out of place against big sides.Still only 19 though.
Consistency, physicality and decision making under pressure are the areas he needs to level up if he wants regular minutes in Mourinho’s system.
Keeping him is a good call, but only if he actually gets game time once he’s fit.
Bench-warming won’t help him grow.
Martinelli still has a lot of potential left.
Going to Turkey right now doesn’t feel like the best move for his career.
He can still grow at a higher level in Europe. Galatasaray is a big club, but for Martinelli at this stage, staying in the Premier League or moving to another top league makes more sense.
After missing Rodri, Zubimendi makes a lot of sense for Madrid.
Even though I’ve talked about him a lot before and said that Madrid should make a bid for him.
He’s press-resistant, sets the tempo, and can play those progressive passes Madrid have been missing since Kroos.
Under Mourinho’s structured 4-2-3-1 he would fit perfectly as the deep controller next to Tchouaméni or Valverde.
Whether Arsenal sell for under €90M is another story, but pure football wise he can cover that gap.
@Danielcky31m@MadridXtra@jfelixdiaz I know they already left.
but talking about before they don't leave , and it's not exact it's just my thinking about Mourinho .
I know they already left. But the news never specified exactly when Mourinho told them.
Both left after he was appointed, so it’s very possible he informed them face to face that they weren’t in his plans and they decided to move on.
it's my opinion about Mourinho's style not about the date and who still include in Madrid team
@DeadlineDayLive@diarioas Between the two, Aston Villa looks better.
Premier League intensity + Emery’s coaching would help his development more than Roma right now. Villa makes more sense for him.
@TouchlineX You don’t have to like every player. That’s fine.
But threatening someone over what they do on the pitch is completely unacceptable.
Ignore them or troll them if you want… this kind of behaviour is just sick.
