Showgirl isn't what I thought it would be. When Taylor teased it as “my life unfolding backstage”, I expected something raw, maybe even dark. A meditation on fame, performance, the exhaustion of always being “on"
But that’s not what this album is at all! A thread!
@febrvaryskies @AlinaSorok47181@grandekordei I didn’t pay too much attention to this whole AI situation, but now that I’ve seen a few things here I am truly appalled… it can’t be possible, that’d be even more disappointing honestly
@febrvaryskies @AlinaSorok47181@grandekordei - the lyrics are weak. It’s just a bunch of “love songs” that sound all the same, so repetitive and none of them stuck with me to be honest
@febrvaryskies @AlinaSorok47181@grandekordei that’s exactly what I thought! “I can do it with a broken heart” contributes more to this showgirl aesthetic and the story it should tell more than this whole album, in a way. The album lacks introspection in regards of her life as a “showgirl” -
people saying blondie doesn’t owe us great lyricism everytime, okay but her quality as a lyricist & storyteller is crucial as to why she’s a compelling popstar. she’s not a dancer or a powerhouse vocalist, story is what she’s got. without that…what do we have???
i’m happy for whoever is enjoying the album, this is what’s great about music. but I’m tired af of some clearly tone-deaf swifties who can’t accept the fact that another part of the fandom thinks that this album was disappointing. #TSTheLifeOfAShowgril
I think my personal problem with this album is that it doesn't evoke any emotions in me, it doesn't make me cry, it doesn't make me want to get up and dance, it doesn't make me feel anything it's just there and it feels very flat
@febrvaryskies @AlinaSorok47181@grandekordei - which I totally understand since it was written during an exhausting tour during which another album came out. So I get it. But maybe it wasn’t necessary in the first place???
@febrvaryskies @AlinaSorok47181@grandekordei I love Taylor’s works! Absolutely love them, she has great talent for writing songs, building a whole album around a beautiful concept (see folklore/evermore and even midnights); but this is just not it, it feels rushed and, as you said, poorly planned -
@AlinaSorok47181 @febrvaryskies @grandekordei Not you blocking me lmao you really can’t take some criticism and struggle being objective. I have listened to the album. It says nothing about what went on behind the curtains while being on the eras tour. This album was just not a good work, that’s it.
