not gonna lie, never been a Silver supporter. Hated the direction he’s taken the league w gambling, the sprawling streaming mess. he’s flat out ruined AllStar Weekend. he’d sell his own soul for advertising space - the courts are covered, refs rocking Emrites patches, teams wearing advertisement on jerseys.
his one achievement is maybe the NBA Cup, which is fine.
also my tinfoil hat conspiracy is that he orchestrated Luka to LA for Flagg, tho it’s impossible to prove.
either way, I think he genuinely fucked up w clearing Rozier & he’s had numerous gambling scandals on his watch now - it’s time to end the Silver era.
Over 8 yrs ago someone singlehandedly pulled me out of poverty. Knew him because I trained with his wife who is a professional athlete. He was leading a group at Citi and I desperately wanted to be an analyst. Didnt have the resume for a fancy banking job but grew up in public housing and the job was to help finance affordable housing projects. He called me and said “I will not get this job for you. However I will refer you and teach you whatever I can”.
I got the job. It moved me out to SF which completely changed the trajectory of my life. One year in I received my first big analyst bonus. $20,000. I couldnt believe it. I felt ashamed. That was so much money. I messaged him and asked if they would take it back. This was his response. I read this often.
So it took The Athletic, what? 5 years to go through the tech cycle.

2. Invest an unsustainable amount of capital
3. Sell
4. Begin layoffs and change mission to be exactly the same as the orgs you originally claimed weren’t doing things right
There's been several good studies on how people actually use LLMs for coding tasks. This one presents an interesting, mixed-methods, deep-dive into the topic. From @HsseinMzannar@bansalg_@adamfourney and @erichorvitz; good list of relevant cites, too!

I've worked in-person for three different startups. I've never ever witnessed one of those serendipitous "hallway conversations" that turned into a meaningful product. What I have witnessed are:

When this guy went viral for holding a beer instead of an iPhone, @MichelobULTRA went real-time marketing.
Within 48 hours, the brand:
- made him their social spokesperson
- gave him his own merch line?!
- took him to the next PGA tour stop
A social case study + analysis 🧵:
