You can see these effects in real time by taking a look at Fortnite. You can see how much character is lost in recent releases vs the teams older work. It leaves a lot to be desired.
As a developer who is okay with some minor use cases of Ai assistant tooling in development, this steps way over the boundary line on what should be considered acceptable. I occasionally play Fortnite & this was the final nail in the coffin for me to uninstall & never return.
Here's a look at how Epic's artists approach concept work. From blank canvas to final concepts, they sketch, block out, and refine using traditional tools and evolving ones like Nano Banana, with the artist’s vision driving the ever-evolving process from start to finish.

I think the main thing that rubs me the wrong way here is that you’re generating imagery over an artists work. Whilst yes they then re-paint over it and make final touches, I strongly believe this detracts from little nuances you get from a fully crafted piece of art.
It’s such a shame.. I got real excited about this announcement as well. Same happened to me with Pragmata & Pokopia. It’s a good job I bought my Switch 2 with the intent to play Switch 1 games with better performance otherwise I’d be really regretting my choices right about now.
Here's my conversation with Jeff Kaplan, a legendary Blizzard game designer of World of Warcraft and Overwatch, which are two of the biggest, most influential games ever made. Jeff is one of the most genuine & awesome human beings I've ever met: kind, thoughtful, hilarious, and still & forever a gamer through and through.
This was a truly fun & inspiring conversation. We talk about it all: the lows, the highs, the memes, the details of the game design process, and the new game he's been secretely working on: The Legend of California. I got a chance to play the game with Jeff, and it's incredibly beautiful (and fun). You can wishlist it on Steam now. I can't wait to play it with all of you!
Conversation is here on X in full and is up everywhere else (see comment).

@PlayHighguard Thank you for continuing to push updates in face of so much undeserved backlash. I imagine times are tough for the team but I’m glad to see you guys are still pushing through. I’ve been playing with friends quite a bit and we’ve yet to see why this game is so hated.
@NoMansSky Another great looking update! I'm so glad that Sean and the team continue to be the gold standard for development studios! keep up the great work guys!😎
Finally! I can't wait to see what the guys over at Supergiant have been cooking up.
Hades was one of my favourite games of all time, so I'm hoping this comes at least close if not better than the original!

@Kyto_YT I think the best solution would be to have a custom dbd exclusive animatronic that can just wear the skins of main line characters. That way they can just keep adding new options over time without too many people being upset.
@_AllHailHale_ It looks to be a direct byproduct of a rushed development cycle since the studio has been pumping out games faster than ever. They should have left the base game in the oven for a little longer. Its a shame but at least the product is actually fun to play and that’s what counts.
@_AllHailHale_ I think content wise both are going to be great! With the first dlc adding new story & a new area to explore & the 2nd dlc with the subsuface terrarium zone & even more story, I can’t really complain. The only letdown is the art direction/quality of the overall finished product.
