The former Mt Kenya region alone has 8 million votes. Add the Maa, South Rift and Mt Kenya North votes, and DCP’s vote basket already stands at 10 million.

We have not even counted Wiper’s Mt Kenya South votes yet.

Then you are told your candidate cannot vie for the top seat, that even the deputy slot would be given out of pity.

Wait a moment. Who are you?

Any other candidate you have in mind can only manage 4 million votes.

Even if numbers 2, 3 and 4 form an alliance, they still cannot match Mulima’s numbers.

Yet they want us to believe that 10 million is weak support while 4 million means everything.

Bwana, we are not that desperate.

No one will get those votes for free. Whoever gets this support is the one who shows respect and works for the people.

I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard Tutam politicians call other leaders tribalists and wakabila.

Let me explain what those insults are meant to achieve.

They are aimed mainly at members of that community, not at the leaders themselves.

The goal is to make unity look like a bad thing and therefore something to be ashamed of.

The urban and professional class is often quick to buy into this message, because they want to appear post-tribal.

Supporting leaders from other communities is framed as progressive, while backing your own regional figures is demonised as backward.

So an outsider walks into your region and tells you that supporting your own is shameful. Time yeye backyard yake iko nyuma yake 100%

The next step is usually to paint that community’s visible leaders as greedy, loud, or less qualified. The “unfit” tag is the last nail in the coffin.

When those narratives fail to bear fruit, impeachment follows.

Once the region’s leader is discredited, the region has no one left who can negotiate for its people.

Na hivyo ndio the road to marginalisation hukuwa clear like the sky on a sunny day.

For a long time, Mt Kenya’s numbers have been treated as a problem to be managed. “Vote for your own” is denounced as tribal only when it comes from this region.

One of the main agendas this government is hell-bent on accomplishing is kupasua mlima. Yes, not to fix healthcare, but to divide Mt Kenya.

The charge of “tribalism” is applied unevenly. When Mt Kenya leaders say the region should not scatter its votes, they are branded tribal.

When other regions do the same thing, or when a candidate is marketed as “one of us,” it is often called strategy, equity, or “our time.”

The complaint is not that ethnicity exists in politics. It is that only some communities are told their solidarity is illegitimate .

Like that is not enough a government that was voted in by the same people, invests in dividing them.

In my view, with the way you are hyping proven turncoats, it looks as though today’s Moi may stay in the office much longer, until we get our minds back.

Gachagua has been fighting for you, yet you are the first to call him tribal.

Gachagua has been talking about abductions, payslips and SHA, yet you are the first to claim he has no agenda.

Even with the current bad state of affairs, I think our region is yet to learn its lessons.

Mount Kenya’s political base is in danger. We have been sold a lie: that we are tribal and voting for one of our own is evil.

Those who see our numbers as a threat have a plan.

They want some of our people to start “hating” their own leaders, or to see them as less qualified.

You have heard them say our leader is tribal and our leader can't vie, when we know he can.

The first targets are Mount Kenya people living in urban areas.

Supporting a leader from another community regardless of their ability to lead, has been packaged to look fashionable.

The result will be that capable leaders are not elected and that's how characters like Didmus Barasa will take office and enable discrimination against mt Kenya people.

The attempt to apply divide-and-rule tactics in the Mount Kenya region comes too late to succeed.

Over the past three years, H.E Rigathi Gachagua has worked steadily to forge unity across the area while deliberately broadening its political boundaries.

Today, Kamba land is already regarded as part of Mount Kenya, actually it's mt Kenya South.

The Maa region has aligned itself politically with the same bloc, and the South Rift is expected to follow suit in the near future.

Beyond these territorial gains, the region also counts numerous political cousins scattered across the rest of Kenya.

In short, the old strategy of division no longer has fertile ground on which to take root, neither now nor at any time in the future.
