Everyone gives up in their own way.
Some stop caring about how they look. Some lose interest in things they once wanted so badly. Some drop out of school, stop taking care of themselves, or only listen to sad songs. Some stop taking photos, stop dreaming, and stop believing in love.

My original plan was to get to camp, do documentation, fake one serious sickness and go back home.

So I went to the clinic with my fake illness, but the nurse who attended to me advised me to stay. She was really nice.

She said if I wanted to enjoy camp, I should join a group and suggested OBS or Man O’ War. She also said it would help me get a good PPA.

Man O’ War already sounded like suffering, so I carried my soft self to OBS.

I was always at the forefront of activities, and so when I started hearing, “don’t worry, someone has already paid” at Mammy. I started feeling like a mini celebrity.

I never ate camp food. And almost all the meals I ate at Mammy was paid for by an anonymous person.

I only ate from one particular canteen, so one day I asked the woman for the people who were paying for my meals, so I could at least thank them.

She told me it wasn’t people. It was one person. A guy.

Ha.

During social night, I was making videos when I noticed one guy constantly trying to appear in them. I turned and said hi.

Long story short, we got talking.

Then he told me his plan had been to come to camp, finish documentation, and leave.

But he saw me on arrival, and somehow he had a reason to stay.

In my head I was loke “so this is love, tananana.”

The next day we went to Mammy to eat and the canteen woman said, “Na the brother wey dey pay for your food be this.”

What a beautiful story for when my kids ask how I met their dad.

On the last day of camp, we spent the night together in a hotel. Three nights actually 🌚

We got posted to different PPAs in Port Harcourt.
