Our statement on California's "Ban Nick Shirley Bill" AB 2624:
The 1st Amendment exists so the government can't silence you for what you say, publish, or expose.
If enacted, AB 2624 would prohibit individuals, including @nickshirleyy, from posting footage that exposes organizations suspected of defrauding taxpayers. The bill could result in the removal of investigative footage, including videos recorded in public, and impose fines up to $10,000 (per violation) and possible jail time.
Nick has spent several weeks in California documenting alleged fraud at hospices and daycares that bill taxpayers for significant amounts. Rather than investigating these organizations, state officials are advancing legislation that would restrict further documentation.
We, the people, will fight this.
Californian's call your representative, voice your opinion, and demand they VOTE NO on AB 2624.
Anyone else sick of seeing our tax dollars wasted by people who literally just steal government subsidies to fund their entire lifestyles?
Even after multiple visits showing that no kids are at these “daycares,” California continues to fund them.
