The resignation comes as the department has received public criticism in recent months, after KSP says one of their officers shot and killed Doug Harless inside his home.

BREAKING: Frankfort Police confirm a male child was found dead in floodwater this morning.

They say the initial report came in around 6:35 am, reporting a child had been swept away by floodwater while heading to a school bus stop.

He was found around 8:45 am.

Franklin County Superintendent confirms this was a student. @WKYT

.@GovAndyBeshear calls this “one of the most serious weather events in at least a decade.”

The death toll has now reached at least 8. That includes 7 adults and 1 child.

Beshear says many of these deaths were due to attempts to drive through water.
